Pretty good as catfood/water bowls --the 6" sizeYvetteI don't have any cats of my own, but, I feed the homeless cats, plus, my neighbor's cat likes to come over and hang out (with her permission). So, I need catfood bowls, and I wanted some which were impervious to bacteria and such. These are excellent for that as they are so very inert. I have several --probably 8-10 because it's always a musical chairs (catfood bowls) shuffle situation with me changing the outside bowls out once per day (for more food) and soaking them in the sink (I do dishes by hand), plus there's my neighbor's cat's bowls. I use these for their water bowls, too. These do clean up remarkably well, and it doesn't take much washing before they're squeaky clean, so I feel good about using them because they are so clean. I love how thick they are, they are perfect just how they are. I wash them each with 3+ passes of the sponge, and then rinse the heck out of them with piping hot water from the faucet, and they handle the hot water beautifully.5
Multiple usesJaneI purchased these to replace some very old Pyrex small bowls. This is the perfect size for portions of applesauce, fruit, or snacks for the kids and adults. When I return to IKEA, I will purchase a few more for baking prep. Measuring out smaller amounts of ingredients makes cooking so much easier and faster. 5
I love these dishes! PerfectSandyI love these dishes! Perfect for a small dish of ice cream or cobbler.5
Nice dishTedNice dish. Wish the other shapes had been available.5
Not microwave safeLaurenI bought these a few months ago and they were great for sauces. I dont own much plastic so I went to heat up some small leftovers in one. I heard a POP and immediately knew what was wrong in my microwave. The glass cracked. The care instructions on the website said it was fine with food up to 120° so im not sure what happened there other than overlooking the fact that it might not have been microwave safe. I'm a little sad owning only one now, we used them alot. I like them, they're great for everything except apparently microwaves.4
Great ProductsFerozIKEA products are generally well-made and durable, and they offer a good value for the price. IKEA also sells a wide variety of other home goods, including kitchenware, bedding, and textiles. Overall, IKEA is a great option for people who are looking for affordable, stylish, and well-made home furnishings. The company's products are a good value for the price, and they are easy to assemble.5

Exactly what I was looking forMatthewI was looking for a few bowls to use in food prep and simple sauce service. These fit the purpose perfectly and the price is wonderful. I am going to be buying more next time I visit the store.5

Cute Little Bowl that does alotPatriciaI like this little bowl, because it is so versatile. I bought it to scramble a couple eggs in, but I found it is useful for holding measured ingredients for a recipe, or mixing spices, or using as a cereal bowl. This bowl is a solid glass bowl, which makes it more stable. Also what is nice is that this same style of bowl comes in a larger version as well. The beveled rim makes the bowl a stylish addition to any kitchen. The design is timeless lending a modern touch that is also nostalgic.5
Perfect Little BowlTeriI was looking for a little bowl to use for dips, small enough to set on a tray. This is it!5

VARDAGEN Bowl, clear glass, 4 ¾ "

Designing for the tastes of people around the world

Do you sometimes cook dishes from other cultures? Then you’re part of an international trend called transculturalism. It basically means that global cooking and eating habits are a lot more similar than you may think. How can we cater for this trend? We designed the VARDAGEN series with products that can be used in multiple ways. In Swedish, VARDAGEN means “every day”, which is just how the products are meant to be used, no matter where you live.

“Consumers have access to cultural diversity in cooking and eating from all over the world,” explains Ina Tidbeck Sjöblom, who helped create the products. “They want to taste the best of all cultures, which means that it’s not only in Asia that we need eating products for sushi.”

Creating products for all our differences (and similarities)

The VARDAGEN products are designed to turn differences into similarities. Like the eggcup. “We did it in a shape that it’s more like a very small dip bowl,” explains Ina. “So it’s also for Asian eating, you know the bowl where you put chili paste and other condiments.” Another bowl has just the right size and shape to be a rice bowl in Asia, but it can also be used as a side-salad or cereal bowl.

Answering the global demand for durability

VARDAGEN is uniquely suited to the global market—catering to the different needs of eaters. One thing people all over the world seem to agree on is the importance of durability. “We know from all the studies and research we do that people don’t want to buy and throw away things, they want to buy something that lasts,” says Ina. That’s why VARDAGEN is made from durable and sustainable materials, like glass, porcelain and stainless steel. That means, just like the name VARDAGEN suggests, they’ll be useful every day for many days to come.

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.

Designer thoughts

”We designed VARDAGEN tableware and glassware because we wanted to make timeless, traditional and lasting items for your home. Inspired by old-fashioned craftsmanship, we gave every piece a distinct function. Attention to detail and soft, round shapes make a beautiful frame for the food and drink on the table. Simplicity and honesty are the words we use to describe the products. Each part of the series has a soul of its own, that brings back memories and creates new ones!”
