The compact design is perfect for tight spaces or under low ceilings, so you can make the most of your available space.

Great twin bedsTamaraWe have two sets of these beds. They go together easily and are sturdy. I especially like the fact the can be set together to create a single wide bed.5
I was impressedcherieI needed sleeping in my guest room, but only for a few weeks a year. This was the perfect solution.5
Amazing !!!TiaraI order this set to include their recommend mattress. The mattress is thinner, but that’s not an issue to me. I actually prefer it because it provides better support. The bed has a wonderful design and looks just like the photos. I would highly recommend getting it :) I love mine !!5
Well made and very flexibleDAVIDWell made and very flexible ways to use it. We bought the best mattress set available and are very happy. We use it as a guest bed for 1 or 25
Best beds for small spacesWhitneyI love these beds. I love that they are so diverse. The quality so far seems great. Real wood. I painted mine so far holding up and looking good. The bed frame does squeak a little bit I think it's just because it's brand new and needs to be used and worn a bit more (hopefully). Beds seem durable and long lasting otherwise.5
Great dealmichelleThe assembly is easy, if you have experience with building IKEA furniture it shouldn’t take you long. The bed is low to the grown. The mattress is firm but comfortable. Highly recommend because it’s function is great space saver.5
Great for multiple usesNasamomThese beds are great and here is an use you might have not thought of. Dog Beds! I have 2 mastiffs and I have scoured, purchased, returned multiple dog beds. $1000's of dollars were spent on beds, only to have them throw out. Not anymore! These ended up being a life saver and after months of use by my big guys, they are still going strong. I did paint the frames with a bright color and some sealer, and added their names, to help them last. I also bought waterproof mattress pads and cotton sheets, in some fun colors, and they go great in my room. I am always complimented on my dog beds and people are shocked they are from IKEA. I can move them from room to room and when I deep clean, I just stack them up. They are a lot of fun!5
Love these!JemarPerfect for the grandkids’ sleepovers....so close to the floor that even the real little ones can sleep safely!!!5
Love them!Elaine 1223Perfect for my grandchildren’s sleepovers! I assembled them myself with no problems. They are attractive and very secure when stacked in my spare room as an additional couch. They are light enough to stack and unstack with the help of one child. I’m very pleased with this purchase. They make great extra beds.5
excellent and versatile bedsmommy 89It can be used as beds, sofas... it is sturdy5
Ikea warning sticker ruined itJenn2019Ikea: Please do not put your stickers on soft unfinished wood. After I scraped the stickers off, the wood was badly indented. Then I had to sand the area and paint the entire bed! Really disappointed (not to mention scraping a huge sticker that doesn't want to come off while ruining your brand new furniture is pretty frustrating as well); it ended up costing a lot more time and money than expected.1
Cool but need Mattress PadsSquid94Absolutely love the idea and the execution of the bed frames, their connection, and stacking abilities. We got the meistervik beds and they are rather firm. We went to Walmart, got some 3 mattress pads and they're perfect now! We are excited to finally be able to have guests in our home and off our couch. ❤️4
Great Space SaverNeen21I bought these for our office to have a day bed during the day and a queen or two twins when company comes over. I wish they would make bed risers that can be kept separately because it is difficult for older guests to bend down to get onto the bed but otherwise I love them.5
Works great for our useKscarI bought this several months ago and it is holding up well.5
Chata68I loved how it looks on my small bedroom5
way better than a trundle bedsupatI am a very practical person and I love furniture that is minimal, simple lines, strong yet comfortable. Also not a fan of pressed board and love natural pine. The Utaker stackable bed with Meistervik mattresses totally fit the bill. The beds use the minimum amount of wood, were easy to assemble with two people and felt just strong enough. The slats work! I thought I would buy a solid piece of plywood to support the foam mattress but no need. Plus the slats give a just enough bounce to make it more comfortable than a solid surface would have. Bought one set to try out for our new condo in FL. I weight 135lbs and my husband is 6ft tall and weighs 170lbs and we both slept very comfortably for a week on these. Love the way they hook together snugly to make a king size bed. We had them set up separately for the first few days and then up hooked together the very last day. Both work. I was a bit trepidatious about us sharing a single bed up it held up too :) So I've bought another set for the loft. Truly tempted to get a third for the master bedroom but undecided.5
Perfect bedsINFINITY 23So far the best purchase I've made...starting with the delivery, not a scratch on my boxes. Thank you to the shipping and handling departments.Second that was the most pleasant assembly. The instructions are made for dummies so no way you can mess up. So easy to put them together and I got 2 set of these beds. For 3 hours I was done with all of them, total 4 beds. The mattresses are kind of thin but surprisingly very comfortable so far. The slats how someone said were fragile, doesn't seem to me they are but the time will tell.5
Easy to assembleDaustin198I bought this a few months ago for a small guest bedroom. It looks like a day bed when not in use. I like the fact that it's so versatile depending on the amount of guest you have! Can not comment on durability, since it has not been used much.5
Great overallZamom5I needed small space sleeping structure for all my grandkids. Great choice, I am considering another set!5
Practical FurniturejacereceGreat and functional. Maybe the only improvement could be taller legs to make it more comfortable for every use.4
UTÅKER Stackable bed with 2 mattresses, pine/Minnesund, Twin

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

That's why IKEA product developer Ina Klepper and designer Henrik Preutz looked to create a bed that could move from home to home multiple times and adapt to any decor or room size while becoming a double or a single just as easily. It seems like a big task, but for Ina, Henrik and the rest of the design team behind UTÅKER bed, it was just a question of drawing inspiration from their own lives.

Made for a generation on the move

Whether you love or hate the word "millennials" it's no secret that life for many people born in the 80's and early 90's is different from earlier generations. One home, jobs and neighborhoods are just not the set paths they once were, as people travel more, look to gain meaningful experiences, and seek to have a lighter environmental footprint. Falling into this age group herself, Ina found that traditional beds didn't fit her or her friend's lives in the way that they could. "A lot of the time beds and daybeds can be pretty heavy and are not so easy to move from one space to another," Ina says, "and to be honest you probably only want to put them together once." Not exactly ideal for people who might be moving often, or who might have changing living arrangements. "So we came up with this idea of a stackable bed, which could be easily assembled and taken apart again for moving, while also being made from solid wood so it would be long lasting," Ina says.

From design floor to apartment door

The design floor at IKEA of Sweden in Älmhult is nothing if not busy. Amongst the buzz and energy of new products taking shape, the UTÅKER design team managed to tape off 269 square feet of floor space to stand in as an apartment, and came up with two people called Dieter and Hanna to live there, while they worked out what would be good for them. "We had the idea that she lived in this small apartment while he was travelling a lot and they were only together on the weekends," Ina explains. "To fit that lifestyle we designed the bed to work as a single with both bedframes stacked on top of each other during the week to save room, then sit side by side to become a double when Dieter came home." For friends or colleagues the bed also can be separated to make two single beds just as easily.

"Our second thought was that since they only had a small place they couldn't fill it with too much stuff," Ina goes on. "We wanted the bed to fill as many furniture roles as possible," She says. "So we made sure that it could work as a sofa, seating for casual dining or if you have a weird shaped room, you can just move both pieces around to fit into any combination as you like." Lastly was the idea that the bed could be adapted to fit any decor or personality. "We tried to keep the bed as minimal as possible and not waste any material when making it," Ina says. "It's really functional without any frills so you can adapt it how you want. You could paint it as bright as you like, or keep it clean and stripped back. If you wanted to add a leather handle or something just go for it. It's your clean canvas to do what you want." So for those moving to small homes, in (or out) with partners, or who just want to add personality to their furniture, we hope UTÅKER bed helps you live and move easier.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the wood species, it is durable, beautiful, renewable and recyclable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood. This way, every tree is put to good use that little extra.

Function solution

Life happens, it’s okay!

Moving furniture around tends to result in a few scratches here and there. That’s why we made UTÅKER in unfinished solid wood. The bed is easy to move, in and between homes, and small stains or scratches can be removed with an eraser, fine sandpaper or paint thinner. Paint it right away for an extra protective layer, or after a while as a touch-up. That way you can enjoy your bed for a long time, even after the wear and tear that comes with a well-used piece of furniture.
