Nice. steady, and worksJohnWorks great & comfortable.
wanted the grey with grey, but Pittsburgh store doesn't sell that model. However, grey with red is nice too.5
Exceeded my expectations. MichelleI would sit on the display chair every time I visited IKEA until one day I decided to take it home. Assembling it was suspiciously easy, aside from the headrest. I've used it for a week and I have no complaints. I love how adjustable it is on so many parts of the chair and the recline is just perfect. My husband who has sat in a variety of gaming chairs frequently compliments how nice this chair is compared to others at a similar price point.
For reference, I'm a short person at 5' tall and have had difficulties finding chairs that didn't feel right for my frame.5
Love it!!!JeannineLove the chair so comfortable and very adjustable 5
Headset is awful to installMylesChair feels pretty good to sit in, however the locking wheels are a pain. ALSO, installing the headrest is impossible. It feels like it was not designed to be installed. 2
The head rest needs to be taken off and tightened every few days!AntonellaGood otherwise. I deleted all the good things I had to say due to the 999 char limit.
The major design flaw with this chair is the headrest attachment "box-assembly". After adjusting the headrest up and down about 10-15 times (I adjust it a few times a day, maybe once when I sit up for working, and once when I recline) it becomes loose and the headrest wobbles back and forth.
The "box" has 4 flathead phillips screws that go directly into plastic (bad). These constantly come loose.
The designers of the chair should have made the 4 mount screws independent of the adjustment resistance. Tighten too much and the headrest can't move. Or strips the plastic. Tighten too little and they loosen even faster. Just add 1 more fastener to squish the little rubber things and make it into a metal insert or at least tight-enable from the back???
Also, please STOP including the silly wheel brakes. Or allow us to opt-out when ordering! 1/5 assembly for wheel brake removal4
designed for 'a gamer'Nicolethis would be the perfect chair, if it wasn't designed for someone 5'10 and 250+ lbs.
as is, in the lowest setting, my feet are 4 inches from the floor. the arms don't allow for the chair to roll close enough to the desk. the arms are both too wide for my elbows at its narrowest setting and too low for my elbows at its highest setting. the unadjustable seat tilts forward, as though to accommodate someone with thicker thighs.
this chair was not designed for my body. but more than that, this chair was not designed with my body even in consideration.
i spent six months trying to pretend that this price was worth it, adding cushions and back pillows and trying to contort the chair to fit my body and i'm finally fed up.
where do i have to go to find a chair that suits a smaller, slimer body?
if you have a body at all similar to the one featured in the video advertising this product, do not buy this chair.1
The chair from the future!!! Thank you IKEA :-)TanjaDesign, material, comfort, and all adjustments are outstanding.5
Very satisfied with this chair.JoshuaFirst off this chair was very easy to set up. This chair is almost a combination of a gaming chair and a mesh office chair which is nice. Unlike other gaming chairs this one doesn't hug your shoulders which for me is a plus. It has an unexpected feature where the bottom seat is adjustable forwards and backward which works great with its lumbar support. The mesh is very durable and seems to not be bothered by my cat's claws (no punctures as of yet). Overall this chair is very heavy even compared to my Couger gaming chair which can be a plus or a negative. It doesn't like to roll on the carpet at all and the weight of the chair makes it very hard to move which is why I only gave it a 4 star. But overall this chair is a solid buy.4
Pretty uncomfortableEvanif the seat could be wider and the lip where your legs hang off the seat didn't dig in to your legs and the lumbar support wasn't so hard, I'd love this, but that's too many issues for me to look past.2
Save your money for something elseAntonellaI originally rated this chair quite high in my first review; not even 6 months later I am back.
I give it two stars because it has, indeed, still helped my back problems. But...
-The screw that holds the head rest in keeps falling out. Terribly designed.
-The three settings per moveable part seems nice until you discover that you would like it in a position between the two.
-The arm rests straight up do not go high enough.
-The super wide stature of the chair (which doesn't have a high weight limit to begin with) gets tiresome to try to reach and rest your elbows on. This feature doesn't adjust, so for me, I spend my time with my arms splayed weirdly to use the armrest and type, or I spend my time not using the armrests.2
Nice ChairDouglasI haven’t used it for work yet having just built it today. It seems very comfortable so far.
Save yourself time and from injury by getting the correct screw for the headrest. The supplied m5-.80 screw will not screw in to the piece that supports the headrest. I stabbed my finger with a screw driver trying to get it in. I ended up going to the hardware store and got the proper self tapping screw and it’s all good now.4
Great ChairJakub K.Very nice chair with a great design. Only issue is with the screw (doesn't screw in, hole is too small) that holds the top support in place but I made it work somehow. Back support is great but the seat could use some extra reinforcing for comfort4
Great Chair with one issueTeresaThe chair is super comfortable and has great support for an 8 hour work day. My issue is with the rollers. The rollers are weight activated. You absolutely cannot move the chair unless you are sitting in it. I don't understand who thought this feature was needed or wanted. IKEA please stop doing this.4
Excellent chair. Very sturdy.RonaldThis is not the best office/gaming chair I’ve ever used. It is the best one I’ve ever owned. It feels very sturdy and isn’t too hard to put together. The seat could use a bit of padding to make it more comfortable but that would be a trade off as the mesh keeps you cooler as you sit for long periods.
My one complaint is with the assembly- the coating on the screw hole for the headrest prevents the screw from going in. I had to get a slightly smaller, course thread, self-tapping metal screw and drive it in to remove some of the coating before the threads on the proper screw would engage.5
Comfortable but terrible design and HEAVYAnnaI had to have another headrest sent to me because the first one continued to strip the ONE screw used to install it. The way it's designed makes it IMPOSSIBLE to get the screw in properly, so even for the second headrest I got, the screws stripped and the headrest kept wanting to pop off as I tried to install it. I'm a bike mechanic, I am mechanically inclined. This is absolutely atrotious for a design and especially for almost $400!!!!
On top of that, the base is incredibly heavy and when you lift up the chair, the base falls off, so just pray your foot isn't underneath it. I will be asking for a partial refund considering I can't even use the headrest.
It's also designed for a huge man, and I'm a petite woman, so the arm rests are stupidly far apart with no adjustability for me.1
Headrest attachment repairKirkI'm pretty pleased with the Styrspel chair, but several reviewers have mentioned that it was impossible to attach the headrest because they could not get the supplied M5-.80 screw to go into the nut welded to the headrest. I couldn't do it either; it appeared to me that the problem was paint in the threads of the nut. I ordered an M5-.80 threading tap from Amazon and used it to clean out the threads and the screw went right in. Be cautious that you hold the tap at a 90° angle to the nut. I had to use needlenose pliers to turn the tap, there's no room to turn a tap handle. But it worked!4
I don't really like it, but it helped my back.AntonellaI like that it helped my back, to be clear.
I'm a pretty average 5'6" but I am a long torso, short leg kind of person. Basically all chairs are made for short torso, long leg, or closer to that than my body is. Previously I existed in a Secret Lab chair. I hated that chair. I messed my back up and I hated that chair more. I was in sheer daily agony when I brought this home.
The head/neck rest is too high for me, and I can't reach it in most postures. I have to have the chair pretty far down which puts the elbow rests too low. It uses a click-in system for the adjustments and the seat base and back rotation both hit 3 points and not a single one is great (1's too forward, 2'stoo far back, 3...), so I wish it had more static points. Due to its flaws I still struggle to keep good posture.
But it is pretty comfy and relaxing to sit in, I will absolutely give it that. Its holding up well to my two nightmare cats. And my back isn't nonstop agony from simply sitting down, so that's nice.4
Best Desk Chair IKEA SalesShelbyThis is the most ergonomic IKEA desk chair. I have a $1200 Herman Miller Aaron chair at work, and this chair is comparable in ergonomic features.
1. The chair has forward tilt, which you rarely find in a chair under $1000.
2. The armrests are 3d meaning they move up, down, and swivel left, right. They're padded and not hard as a rock like the Grupspel chair.
3. The lumbar support moves up and down
4. The seat pans moves forwards and backwards
5. The mesh surface is breathable and comfortable in shorts (the Aaron chair is not comfortable in shorts)
My primary concern is the sturdiness of the lumbar support. It's made out of a fairly thin piece of plastic, which may break for people who weigh over 200 pounds. This is an issue that plagues other chairs with this design including more expensive Steelcase chairs.
I wish IKEA offered a 10-year warranty on their gaming chairs like they do on their office chairs.5
Worst IKEA product I've ever purchasedAntonellaI usually love Ikea products. Indeed, I'd never had a bad experience - until this chair. I put the seat on, sat in it and it immediately sank all the way down and won't go up. For $400 the hydraulic should work. I didn't even finish putting it together. I am so annoyed, the closest Ikea is an hour away, so now I have to waste both time and gas to take it back. Also, that stupid little screw that holds the headrest on is nearly impossible to get in and it won't tighten enough to keep the headrest in place. I am hoping I can get a refund on this terrible product.1
Live thr chairAllisonI love that they came out with chairs in color. I this chair has way more support than any I'd previously had. My only complaint is that even at its lowest setting it sits too high up for me. My legs sit down at an angle and not flat. I haven't found this to be too bad, but I may need to get a foot rest for under my desk. Otherwise this would be a 5 star job question4
