Reviews

Not Quite ThereScottWe love the style and corduroy fabric of this chair, but we note two gaps: the lack of color choice in the corduroy and the inadquate padding and shaping of the arms. We originally were interested in the houndstooth fabric until we saw it in person (it looked cheap), but the corduroy feels great. It's jut not quite the shade we wanted. The armrests should have a flat top, not just the edge of the wood frame, and far more padding all the way to the back of the chair. I'm afraid we'll have to devise a pad for each arm to keep it comfortable for the long run. I will recommend this with qualifications/caveats.3

Wingback chairsJenGreat looking chairs. Not very comfortable though.3
Love it!!KristiThis is THE most comfortable little chair! We got it in yellow and it just brightens up the room. Love it so much!5
Comfy!AlisonSuper comfy! Needs a small pillow for your back!5
Green comfort AmosThis is one of my favorite chairs to sit in. Extremely comfortable and relaxing. 5
A comfortable wing-back chair.DavidFor an affordable chair, we are pleased with our purchase. The chair is comfortable and works well with the companion ottoman. 4
Just what I expectedKellyIt's great to have a product easy to assemble and just the way you expect it to be. This chair, I bought two, they were easy to assemble, the parts fit tightly together, and the tools provided to assemble didn't hurt my hands like other Ikea products. They sit in my office and I've gotten good reviews of people sitting in them and the way they look.5
Love this chair..MarinaRelatively easy to assemble. Looks great in living room. Love the material and color. Comfortable. My daughter has one for 10+ yrs and it’s still great. Only thing wrong is I want footstool and I cannot get it it’s not offered right now? I’m watching and waiting.5
Comfortable but not sturdyDavidThis chair is one of the most comfortable we have ever purchased, but the construction isn't very sturdy and the piece of wood holding the legs on has broken twice now. IKEA has been great about replacing them, but I wish that we didn't have to go through all that - especially for the price.1
Hubby's Birthday PresentAngelaMy husband is very tall so he has a hard time finding chairs that don't hurt his neck or back. This chair is exactly as shown. The fabric is durable and lovely. It looks traditional in the picture but we have an eclectic style and it fit right in. I will probably get another one next time I visit because its comfortable for short peeps too.5

Beautiful ChairDebraEasy to assemble. Beautiful color and comfortable. Looks great in my reading area.5
Looks niceDavidNice looking chair but not very comfortable. Came with some of the wrong hardware...replacements sent fairly quickly.3
the perfect chairKatherineI currently have 2 of these chairs, the older of the two being around 15 years old. They're comfortable, surprisingly stain-resistant, and have held up through it all - time, use, and several moves. Legs are easy to remove for getting them through doorways. I bought my first Strandmon a year out of the dorms, and now I'm in my 30's taking pictures of my baby sitting in it for Christmas. It's the perfect chair!5
Great valueLincolnVery comfortable and easy to assemble. Love it.5
Had to go buy correct bolts and Piping is uneven right arm pieceIngeI got the yellow. Good thing I have a socket wrench set, the 2 bolts that put the 2 straight screws (to attach back and bottom) are one size too large- literally fall right down the screws, cannot thread b/c TOO BIG- went to the local ace hardware to get the correct size bolts. Also the tool they include to tighten the bolts, DOES NOT EVEN FIT THE BOLTS - not even the correct bolts I bought- NOR the 4 long bolts that put the R&L sides on. YA, good thing I have a socket wrench set. Putting the right arm on was very difficult b/c it’s not equal to the other, and the piping at the back top side is not rounded neatly like the other side, looks a bit flat… and there was more of a gap between the right side and bottom front piece. Too much hassle to bring back, I live 2 hours away. I must say, this incorrect parts business really made me not like this chair so much. The strong smell of composite wood parts underneath is making me very mad right now too, I think this is off- gassing.3
Good chairKari-AnnThe legs are a little wobbly, but overall it's comfortable and looks good!4
STRANDMON Wing chair, Djuparp dark green

From vintage sitting to modern life

Do you sometimes get a little nostalgic? We do. That’s why we created STRANDMON wing chair. Its design is inspired by an IKEA chair from the 50’s called MK – a favorite of the IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad. It was even on the cover of our first catalogue. But how could it be refreshed and adapted to today’s demands? Well, we found a few ways…

Like the quality. Back in the 50’s, most people used chairs just to sit in. Nowadays, we curl up in our chairs, drape our legs over armrests and eat where we sit. We put higher demands on our furniture. Our product developer Ulf Engström explains what STRANDMON has to put up with. “It’s tested to make sure it can take a person that sits and gets up at least 50,000 times. That’s the same as sitting and getting up once a day for 136 years.”

Now in bits and pieces

The aim was to create a comfortable and high quality chair that was a real bargain. For example, Ulf and his colleagues decided to put it in a flat pack. “It has made it possible to have a lower price and reduce emissions during transportation, explains Ulf. The flat pack will also make bringing home STRANDMON a whole lot easier, especially for everyone who doesn’t have a car that can fit a pre-assembled wing chair.

Some things never change

The wing chair perhaps had its golden era long ago, but who knows, it might be considered a must-have in people's homes once again. “People have changed the way they live since the 50's, but the need for affordable quality furniture is still the same. I think that is one of the reasons to why STRANDMON is so popular,” says Ulf. The flat pack and the lower price, together with new colors and patterns, will definitely make it easier for more people to find the right spot for STRANDMON in their home. And – of course – experience some well-deserved comfort.

Material

Velvet

Velvet is made using a traditional weaving technique, which gives the fabric a dense pile that reflects light and gives a fine luster with a slightly shiny look. Thanks to the dense pile, the color looks deep and warm ‒ and the fabric feels cozy and soft against the skin. These qualities have contributed to velvet’s association with luxury. At the same time, it is a material that, if correctly cared for, withstands wear ‒ and that’s why it’s ideal for home furnishing.
