Cannot be openedJoeTo fully close these boxes you push down on the lid until it kind of clicks into place. Once closed like that, you will need to pry with both hands and all your might to get the lid back off. There's no grips or handles on them either, so you'll be twisting these boxes around in your arms, which would jumble up all your stuff, then if the lid did come off all your stuff would fly everywhere! It cannot be overstated how useless these boxes are made just by the lid being way too tight.
If you don't plan on using the lids, or are fine with them sitting loosely, then these will work. I'll be returning mine.
I don't get it...HeatherNot sure why commenters have mentioned they can't open these. They are tin....squeeze and pull. Simples. Anyhoo...I got these for the larger one to put in old photos from my parents house when we moved them to independent living. I digitized the videos and childhood photos but these can just remain in this box. I happen to love this set.

A number of flawsKathyVery difficult to open without spilling contents. Label holder on smaller box is way off-center. Label holder creates large openings in box so contents are not fully protected from water/insects/etc. I was looking for attractive non-plastic storage boxes for small gardening supplies; these aren’t it.

TWO, generous sized tins perfect for storing cards, photos, office supplies, really anything and they look esthetically pleasing. Very well made and not "chintzy" tin. The paint on the exterior is almost like automobile paint - it's a very durable paint. I don't know how they got that finish, but it doesn't seem like something that would easily scratch. Nice gloss. I bought two sets and already have the "old" aluminum ones from about 15 years ago that I wish they'd bring back! Love these!!!! Good luck finding anything this durable for the price!!

Lid Closes Incredibly Tight!Anonymous reviewerThe tolerances on this seems a bit too tight. The larger tin opens fairly easily enough, but the smaller one on the inside is practically impossible to open without significant effort. It looks nice but super impractical to use with how difficult it is to open. I would love to return it, but IKEA is way too far of a trip for twenty bucks.
