Reorder the DirectionsAllison M.It's a beautiful chair! I ordered multiple and ended up ruining the first by stripping a few of the leg screws. The leg screws have to line up just right or else they won't screw in all the way and you'll be left with screws sticking partially out of the legs. I recommend reversing the instructions, slotting the single bars between the two sides of the legs as instructed, but then instead of screwing the leg screws in next, go straight to the step where you screw the base of the legs into the underside of the seat of the chair. That makes it much easier to line up the leg screws correctly afterwards, and means that the slotted-in bars don't turn as much during assembly (before, keeping the slotted-in bars from rotating was impossible and shredded my hands). Also, the front edge of the seat digs into the thigh a bit more than in other chairs, so while it's a nice dining chair, I wouldn't recommend it for a chair you intend to sit in for long (unless you also get a thick cushion).4
Sturdy but lightKristenVery easy to assemble and though it is quite light which is actually a good thing IMO they are very sturdy. the only thing i would say is if you have a wider bum, you'll definitely need a cushion. lol5
GreatElizabethWood quality looks great and easy to assemble. Also comfortable and looks pretty in the dining room!5
Cute chair !!HANSYADRII just love this chair5
Not only were these chairsLUZIANNENot only were these chairs difficult to put together, but the legs are not even level, so all of the chairs rock back-and-forth.1
Uneven & difficult to installSally L.Not sure if I just had a bad batch, but assembly was difficult to say the least. The instructions tell you to attach the bars to the legs before attaching the legs to the underside of the chair seat. However, the legs were often lopsided and didn't fit in the divot. What worked for us was putting the bars in (but not screwing it in) and screwing that into the chair before screwing in the leg supports. However, even doing that, sometimes the holes in the underside don't line up with the leg supports. Every chair I had to push and pull in order to line up the holes, which would be impossible if i screwed the leg bars first. After building it, the chair doesn't sit evenly on the ground and often wobbles. I can understand other reviewers saying the seat is narrow, it tapers off weirdly, though it is comfortable enough.2
sturdy and looks goodtamThe chair is as expected, easy to put together. Looks nice. I ordered 4 chairs for delivery. However, only 3 was delivered, Ikea just refunded the price of the chair, I had no chance to ask them to deliver the 4th chair upon available delivery fee was $150. I had to buy the 4th chair from a southern CA store, drove it up to Summit County, CO. I'm generally happy with Ikea but this case was bad, I ordered 4 chairs because I need 4 chairs, there was plenty of time between order and delivery, Ikea should have delivered what they sold me.5
Great chairMariaBought six Chairs and they look great with slip covered chairs from Ikea at the ends of the table. A great look with a big wood table at a fraction of the cost.5

I love these chairs!j321They are so comfortable, plus I love the way the shape of the seat looks!5
They look sooo goodLucas fBought 6 of these to go with the Skogsta table. They go really well together the chairs are sold. The assemble fairly quickly, just takes a while when you have 6. Everyone should definitely get the round seat cushions to go with these. Ikea sells the seat cushions in a couple different colors too.5
Easy to assembleJulesauburnThis chair comes partially assembled and only took a few minutes to put together. While it is a chair with a delicate profile, it is still very comfortable to sit it for periods of time.5
Chair is smallLulu4231Really disappointed in the size of the seat. Thought at first after putting it together is was designed for a child. An adult behind does not fit on the seat which makes it very uncomfortable. Cushions don’t fit well either due to the shape. I would not purchase this again2
Classic LookKClcy26I purchased this a few weeks ago because it reminded me of the old colonial style chairs. I bought one in black and one in red. Easy to assemble but I wish they were still carrying them in store! Sturdy and great design!5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"I’ve always been fascinated by the way chairs can have so much character, function and beauty. Our Scandinavian design heritage, with its simple materials and expressions, gave inspiration for NORRARYD chair. Organic shapes add personality and comfort. The soft curve of the back embraces you and gives support, while the shaped seat keeps you sitting longer around the dinner table. Hopefully, this is a chair that makes life at home both better and a little more beautiful."
