Great designMonolitaWanted something simple in the hallway for my cat, and the design was perfect for what I wanted. The pillow that we bought to fit in the cat house made the area too tight for the cat to go inside. One we put it on top of the cat house he went into the house. So the pillow wasn't a necessary idea. My cat is picky so. I'm glad he enjoys the house!4
Cats are loving it!jnew19Went together easily. My husband accidentally put the box on upside down, but it still works just fine. One of the cats was so comfortable in it, he started snoring.5
Great! ...If you have a teeny cat!IkeaIdeai recently purchased this to get rid of a giant cat condo. I have two small cat and neither fits very well inside it. I loved the idea, but it is just too small. I ended up removing the legs and installing it into my 2x4 IKEA shelving3
mmciaschiMy cat is 14lbs a little to small for her. She always laid on top but never inside. I loved the rubber legs to keep it from sliding.3
The best cat tower!KimberreeSo glad I bought these for my two cats. They sleep on them every day.5
Cool Cat House on LegsMoonaLunaOur cats seem to like it so far. They enjoy sitting on the top of it more than going inside. We did purchase the pad for inside which they seem to like when they do go in. Its more modern looking so it looks nice with our decor. The scratching pad in the front is not useful and it way too hight for the cats to scratch, but it looks nice and adds some texture.4
Very sturdyNunnsie23It’s well made and I like the versatility of being able to use it with or without the legs. I wish some caps were included to cover the large screw holes, though. Very distracting. One final note, my cat shows no interest so it feels like $50 wasted.4
My cat likes it.hanaerI keep my cat's food on top of this so the dog keeps out of it and she likes it just fine. She also likes to sit inside it with her head sticking out, but I do wish it was a bit deeper for her to lounge in without her paws hanging out the front. She loves to scratch things, but the scratch pad that is attached doesn't seem to interest her. I'm not sure if this is because it's too high up for her to enjoy or if it's too small or what. Overall it's pretty sturdy though and I like the way it looks.4
Love itpurpleerpelLove the style, looks great with the rest of my furniture. Took the cat a while to warm up to it, but now she loves it.5
Works good as a little tableamymacRegretting this purchase because my cats aren't the least bit interested. They prefer boxes, or any other box like thing to this. Works fine as a normal table, but would have bought something else to be a table instead.2
CorinnecEasy to assemble, looks great, cat loves it5
Love it!Freddie5Love it and so do my kitties!5
Easy to build!Lisa1020This was by far the easiest piece of IKEA furniture I have ever built! And my cat LOVES it. The first few days she only spent a few minutes in it. I’ve had it over two weeks now and she spends large parts of the day lounging inside! The rubber feet at the botttom help hold it still on our tile when she jumps up into or out of the house.5
The cat says it is good.BecccccaThis product is easy to put together, solid, and the perfect size for a small cat. Mine was curious about it pretty much immediately -- to be fair I'd say her excitement level was about the same as when empty cardboard boxes are around. But this looks much nicer!! I placed a scarf in there instead of the cushion, put a cat treat inside and viola, she was sold. It's a tiny bit pricey but multifunctional as a small table for plants (non-toxic) or a frame.5

Made for our four legged family members

"I feel that my pets are the ones who can really take me to the present moment. When we share our time together, my head is more free and other worries and stress fall away. They teach us respect, and their unconditional love is priceless."  Read More
If you're a pet owner, designer Inma Bermudéz's words might be something that rings true to you too. After all, our pets give us a lot, from that wagging tail that welcomes us home, to that calm company next to us on the sofa, or that unconditional love at every other time. If you ask us we figure it’s time to give them something back. That's why we brought in Inma to work on the LURVIG range, which is designed to help out all aspects of life with our dogs and cats. Not to mention be long lasting and affordable, while fitting in with your existing home furnishings. As Inma says: "Our pets have their own personalities but they have five things in common: they love sleeping, eating, playing and exercising and being close to us. So these behaviors have been the first thing on our minds when designing these products."

Designing from a pet's perspective

Of course designing products for pets rather than humans has its own set of rules and things to consider. To help out, the LURVIG range was developed with the assistance of trained veterinarian Dr Barbara Schäfer, who also works with product risk assessment at IKEA. Barbara has an extensive background working with pets from hamsters and rats all the way up to dogs and cats. She says the biggest challenge is not to "humanize" pet products. "It's really important to use animal’s natural needs and behaviors like how they sleep, eat or play as a starting point. Then we can design a product that fits in with our "human needs" such as style and form." The first thing to consider was safety: "Dogs will definitely chew on their toys and bring in dirt from their daily walks. Cats will definitely scratch on most surfaces and are sensitive to smell and texture. So safe, durable materials are very important." As well as looking at animal behaviors like eating. "Cats are generally good at regulating how much food they eat, however a number of dog breeds still retain the desire to overeat. That's how the "slow feed" bowl became part of the LURVIG range. By using a design that breaks up a bowls internal surface area, it prevents the dog from being able to inhale their food in one or two gulps."

Matching human design with pet design

How often when watching your pet do they go for the same toy or blanket and return to a cozy spot to chew or maybe just have nearby as a comfort? Rounding out the LURVIG design process was the focus that our pet's live with us at home as part of the family — even if they do take the odd shoe or two. For Inma, that led to a friendly smelling bed. "The piece that I'm most proud of is a pet cushion that we encourage owners to fill with their old clothes, blankets or towels. The idea’s that pets get a comfortable cushion with comfortable, familiar smells too." The LURVIG range also matches with some IKEA classics, like a cat bed that fits perfectly into a KALLAX shelving unit and a pet sized version of a sofa bed that matches our human sized ones. Final words though go to Inma to sum up their ambition of the range. "I share my life with three dogs and I've always missed nice pet products at an affordable price. As an animal lover I’m proud and happy to be part of this project. I would love it if it inspired people to spend more quality time with their pets."

Designer thoughts

”Every cat is unique. The same goes for humans and homes. That’s why I decided to make LURVIG cat house as flexible as possible. You can put it on legs, hang it on the wall, or slide it into KALLAX shelving unit. It has a front surface of sisal where the cat can sharpen its claws, and you can easily add a cozy pillow on the top or inside the house. I hope that both cats and owners like the straightforward design.”
