Good SofaSAESimple, affordable, and comfortable.5
Missing partsStephanietotiI bought this in store yesterday and it came without the two sides (arm rests), which makes impossible to assemble it. Ikea contact center is not available and it is taking 5-7 days for them to reply emails. Terrible customer service1
Not durable not ikea likeAngar123This is easily the worst ikea product ever, the sofa is weak, bending in the middle, armrest is pathetic. I don't want to go through the pain of returning by renting a truck, which IKEA may not even accept1
Great Buy on a Student BudgetLizzywhat18My husband bought this couch 6 years ago when he started professional school, and he loves it. We are preparing to replace it, but that is only because it has gotten so much use over the past 6 years. He says it was more comfortable than his own bed, so he spent many nights sleeping on the couch when he was living alone! We also have the Karlstad ottoman, but unfortunately, our color (blue) was discontinued. A lot of love for this couch, though!5
Happy CamperMaggie53I bought my Karlstad a year ago. My daughter was pleased with hers. I was sorry that IKEA no longer had other covers but bought the sofa with the idea that I could purchase additional covers later from Bemz — they have a huge selection and I purchased an extra cover from them.5
Great couch- HORRIBLE coverProfessorXI love the couch, it was easy to assemble and all the parts and holes were there. I don't love the legs, but they're OK and easy to replace. I HATE the cover. The color is nice, but the material feels pretty cheap- I could live with that, but it also gets dirty just by looking at it! You have to take the couch apart to wash the armrest covers, which is nuts and a hassle because it has to be washed ALL.THE.TIME. BRING BACK MORE COVER OPTIONS, IKEA!!! It's like they don't want to make money or something- I would literally pay 4x the price for a better cover. I'd recommend to a friend with the disclaimer that they'll either need to buy an after-market cover, or never sit on, lay on, or look at it.3
Concerned....Marie NCBought this for my son’s small apartment. First problem is that there are no pre drilled holes on the back piece that needs to be bolted to seat. We are planning to go to a hardware store and see if we can drilled holes big enough for the long bolts to go through. Frustrating. Has anyone have his happen to them?? I hate to have to take it back yo the store. Way out of our area!!! Don’t have a good review for now but should be great once we can put it together !3
BrokeKl meIt is very beautiful. The supports broke after 6 years. We had to add legs for support as it was sinking to the floor. We did have several years of it being just great.3
Good couchmirnvWe bought this a year ago and it is working very well for us. The cushions stayed in shape, it is not sagging, the removable covers can be washed. One thing to keep in mind: although this couch comes with only one cover option, that cover is not included in the packaging. It needs to be picked up separately (the instructions do not say so - at least in the store I went to, they did not), so don't forget the cover.5
Poor Cover SelectionsDeeh1Love the couch, no question about it, in fact I have 4! One with a chaise. HOWEVER, this gray color is beyond ridiculous. I understand that the other colors are discontinued but if you’re going to keep selling the couch you need to keep selling a variety of covers. I’ve had white covers for eternity now and I’m a LOYAL IKEA fan. Everything in my house is Ikea so much so you’d think I live in one of their model displays!!! I think it’s unfair I have to pay a ridiculous amount of money online with other retailers milking my wallet with 4 covers! This is so frustrating.1
I threw this couch out when I moved, regretted it.AmberNicholeI bought this couch back in 2016, it's stylish, comfortable and priced well. Eventually my cats tore it up and I thought it would be nice to get something new for our new place when we moved, so I threw this out. I've never regretted something so much. The couch I bought to replace this was and IS garbage. I should have just bought a new cover for it. When my tax return comes in I'm getting another one of these!5
LOVE IT!!!!saperryrnI have had this sofa for 8 years and actually plan to buy another. It is one of the most comfortable sofas I've ever had. Several guests have slept on it too and thought it to be extremely comfortable. I love the straight lines as it goes with just about everything. Grey is my favorite! I have had absolutely no issues with it! I have washed the covers (in the washer and dried in the dryer) several times since I've had it with no problems whatsoever.5
Not worth the moneyJRJDEven for an inexpensive couch, this is not worth the money. I purchased this couch approximately a month ago, and it is awful. The manufacturing quality is poor. An armrest is visibly bowed. The fabric is a different color than shown, comes wrinkly, and never flattens out. The cushions easily deform and constantly need to be adjusted and re-fluffed to not look like lopsided, half-filled pieces of garbage. The fabric is already showing signs of stress and wear even though is lightly used, and both my wife and I are of slight build. Save your money and buy something else. This sofa is bad enough that we will probably not purchase anything else from IKEA.1
Great value for a durable and comfortable couchcamijisI've had my KARLSTAD since August of 2009 when I moved back home to DC for a new job, and I have taken it with me to three different residences. It is very comfortable and when the back cushions are removed, it makes for a roomy guest bed as well. The only negative is the original fabric has a rough weave, so it is appealing to my cats who I adopted a few years ago, and I have had to move the couch to the office where they won't claw on it. However, now I see a new fabric is available for this couch, so I think I will purchase a new fabric and give it a try. This was a great purchase for the price, and I plan to keep it for many more years. I hope some day IKEA will make a nice faux suede option, which I have found to be the best fabric for households with cats.5
Great sofa, some small flaws, but a great valuenetgyksWe needed a sofa that sits higher than our old Kivik to ease the burden on the knees of our older relatives and visitors. The Karlstad fits the bill perfectly. It's a better sofa for leaners who sit with their legs under them versus the Kivik due to the higher arms. The arms are still wide enough to balance a laptop, and our cats still lay on top of them. I threw a large sheepskin over the back and that makes another cozy area for them to sit. We had a much more expensive sofa from another furniture store, and honestly this one feels almost identical. There isn't much difference, other than about 2k in price! My only complaint is that the padding on the outer part of the arms smooshes down and makes unsightly lumps, so I'm working on finding taller end tables than the Vittsjo ones I used with the Kivik to hide that. A throw would work, too, but I'm trying to minimize things I need to straighten up daily. I also have to push the bottom seat cushions in a few times a day as they migrate outwards. IKEA uses Velcro on some seat cushions--the old Kramfors sofa that I desperately wish they'd re-issue had it, and this is one that could use it. The back cushions stay where they are, but that could be due to the massive sheepskin on the back.4
Classic style and comfortableKittysan2000We bought this sofa in December 2014 and it has held up so well. I needed a smaller size sofa to fit in my sitting room. The cushions are still firm and look brand new, even with a couch surfer sleeping on it every night for 4 months. Even though instructions are not the greatest, but we managed to get it put together without it falling apart.5
Bought in 2009 and still going strong!NomadicbychanceThis sofa is incredible. It has been my main sofa in 6 different homes, including 2 countries and 3 states. It transports well since the legs and covers come off making it easy to clean and reassemble. It's still fits tightly together, the cushions are still firm, and I still love it! What an investment!5
This is not the worst couch everAma326I bought this sofa over a year ago. We wanted something affordable that was still comfortable and looked nice. The couch has held up great and we are not particularly gentle with it. It’s very comfortable and stains wash out of the cushion covers no problem. I often fall asleep on it as it is that comfortable, though if you’re looking for something very plush to sink into, this is not that kind of sofa. Overall, a great sofa for a great price.5
Nice Sofa for the pricegracesI like the overall aesthetics of the sofa. However, the back is low, so you woudn't be able to lean back and rest your head unless you basically lie down on your back.4
MenchaI've had this sofa for over 6 years now, 4 moves, 2 states later, and it's holding up great! It's firm, yet comfortable! The washable covers and a good deal, especially when you have kids. I should also mention ,it's so comfortable I had guests preferred the sofa over an inflatable mattress.5
