Damaged panelEugenieOne side panel of the KALLAX shelf was damaged — it had a puncture/hole. Unfortunately, we only noticed it during the final step of assembly. I recommend checking the packaging and all panels carefully from every side before putting it together
Love it!AndreaI had a little problem, at first, putting it together. Directions are not so easy even a girl can do it. Lol. Once you get it figured out, it goes right together. If you are thinking about buying one, do it! The quality is good. The appearance is nice. Lots of storage! Price was right, too!

Versatile ShelvesJenniferWe bought two of these and put them side by side so that they were standing vertical. It’s the perfect system for organizing everything. The shelf measurements are exactly the same no matter which way you put them. Sturdy but not ridiculously heavy.

Works great as a vinyl record shelf.JonathanI bought this to store some of my 5,000 dance music vinyl record collection. I have two of these stood up vertically, a 2x8 cube situated horizontally, and a 4x4 cube on a back wall. On top of these and the 2x4 cube shelf, I have my turntables and mixer. It works perfectly. It doesn't wobble, move, or torque. Surprised how durable they are considering it's a shelving unit made of pressed cardboard.

Stripped Threads and faulty woden sticksCarmenI assembled this unit by myself, and when I turned it on its side during steps 13 and 14 of the setup process, I heard a loud squeak. two of the wooden dowels broke in half and became partially stuck inside the unit. Fortunately, I was able to remove it with pliers.
Later, when I was installing the final screw, it just kept turning instead of tightening fully. That's when I realized the hole was stripped. I would return the unit, but it's too heavy for me to carry.
I wish the package had included extra wooden dowels and that the board had not arrived with a stripped hole. Overall, this made the assembly process much more frustrating than it should have been.

Poor construction, dented panelMichaelWhen we built the unit the pieces did not fit together correctly and there were gaps between the pieces when it was completed. There was also a dented panel on the outside where the thin outer layer had broken, leaving a clear seam. We reached out to IKEA about this and they didn’t help after multiple attempts.
The quality of construction is extremely poor, even considering this is made of cheap materials. Save your money and buy something built with real wood.
Multifunctional shelving unitElaineWe are using this to organize our home office, with wood containers for storage and sorting of bills and documents. The wood containers, also from IKEA, can stack two high in each cubby. It’s all easy to see and access.
VersatileEIt works laying it on its side as well as upright. Just wish the price was less, especially when purchasing the inserts/ dividers.
