Book case reviewSyedExcellent looking product. It's made of solid wood. I did not want particle board products. It was easy to assemble. Instructions were good.5
Love these bookshelves. I havesamanthaLove these bookshelves. I have three of them and they are great. They hold a lot of books, look classic and are very good quality.5
The Hemnes BookShelfAlma-MarieIt's perfect! I love that I customize my shelves and it was fairly east for my husband to put together. The instructions were easy for him to follow. plan to buy another. I'm using it for storage of purses and would like another for boots and shoes. It elegant and it keeps the dust off of my things. Great value.5
Still very satisfied after more than four yearsnjprothI bought this bookcase plus two open shelf units to put on either side of it in the natural finish (love the look of this finish). There are two features I want to mention specifically. First, the self-leveling features meant that the three units are perfectly aligned across the top--not one unit higher than the other. Second, the shelves are are sturdy and show absolutely no sagging even though several of the shelves are loaded with books. I am very, very pleased with this purchase.5
Great book case!!!Tigerlily_7jMy husband is a college professor, this cabinet does a good job at keeping all his books organized.5
Beyond our expectationsMacy12We wanted a solid wood bookcase with glass doors and was having trouble finding it. I always assumed IKEA was all particle board so was delighted to find this. It went together perfectly with no issues at all. It’s beautiful and very high quality.5
Another Great He knew CabinetLarry18This is a fine cabinet, we purchased two of these to use with our Hemmes TV cabinet and overhead cabinet.5
Real woodHappy1customerI love these cabinets. They are real wood, great color and sturdy. My only complaint would be that the backing can slip out of the track.5
HorribleCathy Chicagotook a day and half to put together after getting it to my apartment. Looks pretty but doors are not level and gaps on either side of the door where the brackets are. Got my alcohol on bottom, crystal glasses on second and third shelf, heavy dishes and bowls on anchored shelf and decorative on the top shelf. Entire cabinet collapsed.all the shelves fell to the bottom and the anchored shelf broke off at the connectors. Now what? two glasses were broken. do I bring it back or try to brace the cabinet across the back anchoring the left and right side together??????1
$350 for a cabinet with way too many problems...KEEVSCheaply made. The fiber board backing ripped in half over time and the back was completely open and spiders moved in along with dust. The pine wood that this cabinet is made of is VERY soft. Took some nasty dents over the years. This is not worth $350. I would say the overall quality is more akin to a $100 price tag. I would ask for a refund but I have already had it for a while.1
Worst furniture I have ever purchasedmarylynn21I bought 3 of these Hemnes cabinets with glass doors in Sept 2019 to use for kitchen storage. After assembling just one of the units, all 3 were packed up and returned to Ikea. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it is pretty. Unfortunately, it is also the cheapest, most poorly made piece of furniture I have ever had in my home. I have old, $40 bookshelves that are way more stable than this $350 cabinet. It is a huge tip over risk. I was planning to anchor it to a stud in the wall, but I'm not sure even that would be enough to hold this thing up long term. In addition, after seeing how flimsy the cabinet is I researched a bit online and found that a number of owners of the Hemnes bookshelf (basically this unit without doors) and this cabinet complain that after a while the sides of the unit bow out slightly and the shelves drop down. Not great with glass doors attached. This cabinet is not worth $50 let alone $350.1
Beautiful Glass Door cabinetM in FLAbsolutely gorgeous and great price also5
Nice Cabinet but Hinge ProblemsVikBI purchased this cabinet last year and have just finished assembling it. It went together nicely except that one set of hinges isn't working. One door works very well, silently opens and closes. The other door has one hinge that doesn't fit together properly. All the other hinges, when assembled, you can see the two parts match together perfectly and there is no gap between the part on the side of the bookcase and the part on the door. The last hinge set does click into place but there is an uneven gap between the two parts (the one part on the bookcase and one part on the door) and when I try to open/close the door, it pops and the 2 hinge parts come apart. I spent a couple of hours on this one hinge alone! I checked the online instructions and the pages (p9-hinge parts, p34, 35, 40 for assembly of the hinge) are identical to what I have. So I called the tech support number and they are sending replacements for the two hinge parts that aren't working (because I can't tell which part is the problem). When I have replaced the hinges, I will update with how it goes. My caution would be to build your product soon after purchase, pay attention to the hinges (should be silent when installed) and ask for help if things don't seem right. There is not much point in attaching this to the wall if the glass doors can't be securely installed.3
Beautiful BookcaseLAF56These are sturdy yet beautiful bookcases that make for excellent displays.5
Great If Cared Forstudio4562I have purchased the Hemnes glass door cabinet for my studio. I have to this point purchased several. They are made out of wood and not a composite and therefore do not outgas which is nice. The only problem with the cabinets is that they are somewhat frail. I would have rather paid more money and had a more substantial product. Do love the clean design.4
We love our Hemnes Glass-door cabinetNancy in CaliforniaWe purchased 2 glass-door cabinets, and the smaller Hemnes glass-door cabinets, (all available with glass doors in 2015), as bookshelves. 4 years later, they are perfect in our living room as a library, and the wood construction is solid and the glass doors work perfectly and are beautiful. They are classy, yet quietly traditional with a minimalist look, to hold our books which we love so much. We just purchased 3 more units, for the other wall in the living room. I hope IKEA will keep these in stock, because of their usefulness and simplicity, especially with the glass doors. The glass doors make all the difference to us and we would not have purchased these without the glass doors. Thank you, IKEA!5
Hemmnes glass door cabinetSummer19It was harder to assemble and there was so big gaps on the side of shelves . I didn't thin it would bare weight. I had to return it.2
Disappointed with Shelf DepthTonyNCI purchased 2 of the Hemnes Glass-Door Cabinets as well as 2 without doors. Paid $100 shipping and had my son stay home for work to receive the shipment. I assembled them without issue threw out the boxes and noticed that something didn’t seem right. So I measured the depth of the adjustable shelves and found that they are only 11 1/2” deep. After looking at the diemensions for the depth on the website again it says 14 5/8” deep but only on the top piece. I purchased these under the impression that all of the shelves depths were 14 5/8” deep. After looking at the website again there is nowhere that I can see that shows the adjustable shelves depth dimensions. If it would of shown I would of not bought these. They are nice looking but disappointed. I had intentions of putting resin statues on these but now have to think of another idea. The nearest store is 3 hours away so I do not intend to return due to the inconvenience and the fact they are already assembled. Suggestions to Ikea: Make sure that all of your products give very specific dimensions.2
Wonderful storagebethb52I bought 2 with the bridge and tv stand. I liked them so much I bought 3 more for my dining room.5
