Nice deskCarsonA bit complicated to put together… but once we git the hang of it.. it went quick… solid desk… great color… highly recommend!!5
Wanted to set up a new officeGayleThis was the desk of my dreams. Big enough to have 2 screens and still have room for a file rack. Spacious areas on each side. And I LOVE the color. Couldn't be happier to work on this beauty.5
Expected a better product.IlinaThe desk looks good and that’s the only good thing about it. The side boards are too thin and there are gaps on the sides of the drawers and doors. There were scratches all over but IKEA compensated for it. I was looking for solid wood so for the price it is a reasonable value.3
Looks unfinished: blue streaks showing throughCarrie M.The good: I love the functionality: drawers, cabinet, cord management. It feels very sturdy too. 1 star awarded for functionally, 1 star awarded for sturdiness. THE BAD: It looks unfinished. There are obvious blue smudges very visible through the stain: it looks like it needed another coat or 2 to look finished. I thought about returning, but I already sank a few hours into assembly, I need a desk NOW, & I don't know if it would be any better even if I exchanged it, as my white hemnes bookcase I bought to match has the same problem on some of the pieces. I miss the old hemnes white finish that looked much more, well...finished. Having the woodgrain show through is nice, but not if that means blue smudges are coming through. I might buy a stain or paint and add another coat myself, but I'm pretty irritated about potentially needing to do that. If I could guarantee a non-blue-smudged set with an exchange, I would be exchanging. I loved the hemnes line before, but now I'm done with it.1
A solid deskTannerA little difficult to put together alone, but a good desk overall.4
Wasted TimeKendra Y.I’ve spent most of my day putting this together, as I’m juggling WFH and 5 month old. Almost finish just to find the drawers and bottoms of cabinets are not aligned/finished. So now I need to make time to take it allllll apart and have no idea how I’m going to box it since I had to rip it open. 1 layer of paint makes it look cheap, you can see the brown underneath. Very disappointed.1
Beautiful deskmitchell k.I recently moved and bought furniture. IKEA is king of assembly required furniture bar none. Any furniture I purchased from anywhere else that needed assembly was just not as good quality as IKEA. This Hemnes desk is a great case in point. I purchased another desk for my son from Wayfair...Assembly required...The quality was seriously lacking. Didn't fit together as well as IKEA products. Finish wasn't as good...ETC... I bought this Hemnes desk and I love it. IKEA thought of everything when engineering this desk. Assembled as tight as a tiger. Drawers are mounted on the smoothest metal ball bearing slides. Great finish. Quality is top notch. I wish I bought 2 of these desks instead of 1.5
Well made!PaulVery good quality, easy to assemble, well designed!5
DeskJeanneLove it5
We’ll madeMICHELLEThis is a solid desk. Easy to assemble and perfect for my sewing machine.5
Wonderful desk!ReginaThe directions were spot on. The size is fantastic. I took away 1 star because the desk top wood seems a little soft, easily marred.4
Different colored panels on back and sidesKateI bought this as an executive desk, so the back would face out into the room. The back and side panels that show are a different color than the rest of the desk making it look cheap and unfinished. Disappointing.3
Lovely and LargeChristinaThis deal assembled quickly, looks wonderful, and very functional!5
Looks great! My dog ateKellyLooks great! My dog ate one of the plastic screws, but we made it work!5
Beautiful desk at a great priceWill Y.It's tough to find a desk of this quality for the price. We have had ours for years now, and it is still going strong. We are about to refinish the desk and use it for another area in the house, which is why we like that it is solid wood throughout. Would have been impossible or very difficult to do with particle board desks. We were so impressed with the Hemnes series that we bought the bookshelves and dresser as well afterwards. Hope they never discontinue it!5
Looks so Good!PATTIWorks perfectly for my husband and his desktop computer! Plus looks great and hides all his papers5
Nice Desk - butTeresaNice desk but IKEA how do I get something to place on the shelf underneath to plug things in? I thought it came with one but it doesn’t. It shows it in the pictures but its not in the box.5
Office DeskMARLENEI love my desk! The desk arrived on time well packaged. I paid extra to get it assembled with Ikea installation service. They were also on time and vwry professional. The desk is well made and the draws are sturdy. This is a good pruchase for the price.5
Great little desk for myConnieGreat little desk for my studio. It is stylish and looks great in my small space. One recommendation: It would be great if IKEA would consider adding a pencil drawer in the center.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.
