An Adequate DeskMichaelMy wife and I love the Hemnes line, so when we needed a small/medium desk, we jumped at this one. Overall, it's good, but there are a few issues. ONE, the clearance below the pull out drawer is barely enough to get my legs under while sitting in a chair, and neither the chair nor I are big. TWO, and I've had this problem with other IKEA furniture, the dowels are so tight. I hammered one stubborn one to get it flush and it caused a finished part of the desk to split off (luckily the spot is under the desk and I glued it back on). THREE, the screw holes on the metal hinges for the side drawer were ever so slightly too small for the screws, causing me to need to drill the metal to make the holes bigger, which is obviously not assembly friendly. FINALLY, the picture is of a grey desk (the very popular grey Hemnes color), but the text and actual desk is the black wood grain color. I prefer the grey, but it doesn't seem to exist anymore. It also felt a bit expensive for what it is, compared to other IKEA items.3
Great style Its more theELIZABETHGreat style Its more the traditional look I like5
Ikea deskNATALEEAwesome size for college room.5
Perfect small deskacnealeMy daughter wanted a desk in her bedroom so she could do art projects. It fit perfectly in her room, not too big but big enough to give her work space. We already have the matching Hemnes bed in her room, so it looks awesome!5
where is the white and grey?atikeaWhy is the white and grey gone? Black brown is horrible. In the other Hemnes desks you have white and grey. Why not in this one? This one is the perfect size, not too big. Please bring back the white and grey!!!4
my kids love their desksmpp17so far so good! my kids love their desks5
Small with just the right amount of storageT from TexasThis desk is perfect for those people with limited space. I am a 65 year old great grandmother and was able to follow the instructions and put the desk together all by myself.5
Looks cute, little complicated to assemble.MantleIt looks exactly the way I thought it would, cute. I have a house full of Ikea furniture that I’ve put together myself and this one was more complicated than any other. It’s great you have the option to but the cabinet on whichever side you want but I think it made instruction complicated. I think I did something wrong because the drawer is very sticky.2
Just what I needed.LizaDMVYou can build the storage cabinet on the left or the right. The back of the desk is attractive enough to face out. There is a build in cable management tray. It is all wood quality just like the rest of the Hemnes series. The gray is a solid medium gray. It is different from the older gray-brown version but it works with those cabinets well. The cabinet storage is large enough and deep enough for a full size desktop tower. The shelf is adjustable but it also works well as a slide for under the cabinet for a ream of printer paper. The drawer is large enough for a full size keyboard or a 17 laptop with room to spare. The desktop has enough room for a monitor on a stand, keyboard, and some peripherals such as a joystick and backup drives.5
Great Deskbec1896Great desk except instruction book had blank page with missing directions and I had a left over piece.4
Nice product.. simple and comfortablestldadI bought this for my son who is a young professional and he loves it5
Very prettyGretasLooks great and has a lot of storage space. Bracket for the drawer was bent just enough so the drawer doesn't work properly but if you don't it then totally fine.4
Looks good, but took three to put togetherKay in DallasIt took two hours to put together, and in the process one piece went on backwards and my husband knelt on another piece and broke it down the middle. I like it, but probably would have been a better choice for me to have someone else build or buy a desk that came in one piece. One together, it looks good and functions well.3
Good size and qualitySharnI love this desk. It looks good with the dresser I bought too.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.
