Assembly punctured hole through "solid" wood...CassiReally frustrated after using nearly an entire day to put this together. The instructions themselves are fine to follow -- we expect the amount of steps and the time it takes to assemble. What is not OK for 200 bucks is the inefficiency / lack of quality of the materials provided. The worst part is when we flipped the dresser over and found that a tiny, blunt wood dowel used for attaching 2 pieces had punctured THROUGH the side of the dresser. It should not be possible for that to happen; the finish of the dresser on that side is ruined. Not to mention the flimsiness of the nails provided to attach the back, several holes and parts that didn't quite align, and there was a hole completely missing from one piece. I do like the dresser now that it is built, but it is damaged and these things really should not happen.1
Good product TheresaBought same dressers in the past. Plenty of space. 5
Very niceDeidreThe instructions included were of no help so we looked up a step by step video on YouTube and once we put it together it was all worth it! I looked to buy another today but they were sold out! I will be diligently searching to buy another unit soon!5
Total Disappointment BhargaviI was expecting this would be a two tone ( black-brown ), but after opening the boxes its pure black color. which is total disappointing. Ikea this is like miss guiding customers. Didn't expect this from Ikea.1
Much improved!DanielGood value in this solid piece. And with the brace holding the drawer together front-to-back and supporting the center of the drawer-bottom, it is much more stable than in years past.5
Disappointed - Throwing it awayDedreSome connector cam screws in the front (the wood slats between the draws) WON'T STAY TIGHT. Three slats are sliding left to right. So the frame is no longer flush as it was when 1st assembled (you can see the gap with screw & dowel). Now the drawers won't go or stay on track because the track is 2/10" away from the frame. Also, one short screw won't get tight on one side of a draw track and it is not stripped. The hole is bigger than the screw; making that draw useless. I am so frustrated. Paid two people to put it together because of all the pieces in 3 heavy boxes. I even helped so I know first hand. I was literally go back and having to retighten the cams after it was put together. I bought it yesterday and ready to throw it away today. I wasted all that money and time. [IKEA had to send 2 separate assemblers & still messed up my daughters dresser set; that's why I didn't hire them and they were cheaper]. 1
Glad I chose this dresserVirginiaTook me months to finally find in stock. It’s a great dresser. Solid and classic style. The drawers are sturdy and well made. They’re deep and spacious and glide open and close very easily. My husband put it together and it seemed to go smoothly as long as you pace yourself. I would buy again and recommend to a friend.5
Nice dresserChuckLove it. Very well made and stylish5
Tall DresserCandaceAll Hemnes furniture is sturdy. Bought one for my grand-daughter a few years ago. I just moved and bought myself 2 more!5
Glue-y and sticky panels/materialsKarenWe bought the same dresser about 5 years ago and loved it so much we decided to get another in a different color. Delivery was great! But then we opened the box and the panels were so sticky with residue that we had to frequently wash our hands while assembling. We also noticed that the actual material was more thin and I was unable to fully attach a few parts due to misaligned holes. Weeks later I am still hoping that the glue smell will subside and wondering if I can gently sand some of the sticky-ness off. Oh IKEA I used to enjoy your products and now I am leery of obvious major quality issues! 2
A bit difficult to putSophiaA bit difficult to put together4

Hard to put togetherWilliamThe parts were not well marked out in the directions to put it together. You had to guess what the parts were from the pictures.4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
