Product details

In HAVSTEN you sit deep and low with a comfortable resilience thanks to the elastic mesh in the bottom.

Create an armchair, loveseat, a sofa or a sectional as large as you like.

You can just shake off water from a light rain, as the cushion cover is water repellent.

The cushion covers are dope dyed, a process that reduces consumption of water and dyestuff while improving color fastness compared to traditional dyeing techniques.

The cushion has a longer life because it can be turned over and used on both sides.

Easy to keep clean since the cushion cover can be removed and washed.

The firmness of the mesh fabric can be tightened/adjusted with the strap in the back.

A Winner after Clorox clean.DELERVERN J.OK ikea, the easy cleaning FINALLY made me write a review, I got these chair in white along with the larger sofer size for my patio, I left them out all of last summer uncovered and you can imagine what it looked like by the end, washed them and no change i thought they were done for....this summer decided to spray both (the cushions and chairs) with CLOROX/Bleach spray, i figured i had nothing to lose, as they were probably already distroyed, well to my surprise, my cushions and chair look BRAND NEW again, and all i did was spray the clorox all over it and hose it down, It was dried in about 2 hours, and i didn't even remove the filling!! WHO KNEW, so I love them even more now, 2 years later and it looks brand new and the bonus is the sofa is so large my daugher I and both lay on it and watch movies on the patio..5
Major quality and design problem.jean g.I bought this sofa and two chairs a few months ago, I even invested in a custom cover for it. aside of the fact the design of the cushions is not right and overfilled (horrible seating position), aside of the fact that this fabric gets stained super quickly and after 2 washes still have stains (so definitely not an outdoor fabric) Now I just realized that cushion fillings are literally falling apart!!!! Are you kidding me IKEA? How can you let something that bad happening at such a large scale? Fix this please!! Like any car dealer, there should be a return or a replacement for such a major quality problem.1
The cushions get staine easily and doesn’t have replacement covers or fillingFrank O.We bought this sofa for the Florida room of our home, after just one year the cushions are stained and the fillings are deteriorated, there is not replacement for the covers neither the fillings. This is weird since IKEA used to have replacements for everything but not in this case. Beautiful and confortable sofa but not long lasting.1
Too shallow, cushions too thickDragonnessThis was a fail. The cushions are too full and not soft at all. The first review must be about a different product, there is nothing cloud-like about these chairs. You can’t sit back in these far enough because the cushions are so thick. The fabric is staticky and attracts dog hair. I got the light color and just putting the cushions on the ground to assemble this got them dirty.2
Nice Modern LookJerseyBI recently purchased two of the orange chairs for my small backyard patio. They look great and are comfortable. I wish they reclined a little more but I still like them a lot so far. Also easy to assemble.4
Uncomfortable to sit in & unpleasant fabricTanalaiI bought this chair because I liked how it looked online, but I wish I had been able to try it out at the store first. I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm increasingly disappointed with it. I find it very hard to get comfortable. When I sit down, the seat cushion dips down very low in the middle and I have to lean back very far to reach the back cushion. On top of that, the cushion cover fabric is rough and noisy. Hair and cat fur clings to it very easily, which is especially noticeable on the beige color.2
Most. Comfortable. Chair. EVER!!!NicoleDenverI came in specifically debating about two other patio chairs. This one was also on display and oh my goodness it feels like you’re sitting on a cloud. My dog and I both fit very comfortably with room to spare. Assembly was SO easy took maybe 10 minutes. I cannot recommend this chair enough! Was not on my radar until I sat in it at the store. It’s next level and perfect for lounging and reading books in the sunshine with puppies!!!!!5

Our take on polyester

Polyester is a durable, wrinkle-resistant and easy-care material that is ideal for many home furnishing products like rugs, pillows, quilts and cushions. The downside to virgin polyester is that it is made from oil, coal or natural gas. This means that when we use virgin polyester, we are exhausting the planet’s natural resources. Our response to this, is to replace all virgin polyester with recycled in our products. In 2020, we achieved the milestone of replacing 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products and will accelerate the transformation towards the aim of only using recycled polyester throughout the product range where polyester is used.

Balconies, terraces, decks ... Outdoor spaces can look different, but one thing they have in common: they are becoming more like the inside of the home. Today, we also want such spaces to have a personalized look, while also being comfortable and flexible. A little like a living room under the open skies. Damon Hird, who works with product development for outdoor spaces, tells us more. "Outdoor furniture has always been quite conventional, but now more and more people want more function and aesthetics. After all, the outdoor space reflects the home’s character, and when you spend more time there it’s natural to want to make it more personal."

Design award for new sofa idea

Designer Andreas Fredriksson had an idea that suited this new need. A modular sofa that can be added to, from an armchair to a loveseat to a sofa ‒ or as long as you like. "I wanted to make a truly flexible sofa", explains Andreas. "Easy to move around and use to furnish in different ways." The sofa differed a lot from other comfortable outdoor sofas that are often big and heavy. Andrea's design idea was to use light steel tubes to build an airy metal skeleton covered with mesh in order to form the frame of the sofa. Thick pads and cushions are then placed over the mesh to provide comfort. "I wanted to achieve an overall ease with this open design while ensuring that all parts fit in a flat package that you easily take home from the store." The fact that Andreas had an exciting solution was confirmed when HAVSTEN, the name given to the finished sofa, was awarded the design award called the Red Dot Award.

The base of the outdoor space

Both Andreas and Damon think that HAVSTEN is just as easily suited for indoors, but the materials are adapted to resist sunlight and the outdoor elements. The frame is made of powder coated steel and the fabrics of the pads are dyed with a technique where the pigment is added directly into the fibers to prevent them from easily fading in the sun's UV rays. And if it starts to rain lightly, the rain drops form fine beads on the water-repellent surface that you easily shake off. Damon describes HAVSTEN as the outdoor space’s durable anchor point, a neutral base that you can style and adapt as you like. "You can easily change the expression by adding a rug, cool lighting and a table, just as you do around the sofa in the living room."

Virgin vs recycled polyester

Originally, all polyester was made from oil-based raw materials which are not renewable but we are switching to only using recycled polyester. The good thing is that polyester can be recycled over and over, without negatively affecting the quality of our products. When we make products from recycled polyester, we give a second life to material that is not biodegradable and reduce the amount that may otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. Instead, PET and other sources of polyester are used to make textiles, storage boxes, kitchen fronts and even lamps. Recycled polyester is just as good as virgin polyester in terms of looks, quality and function, and produces about 50% less in CO2 emissions. And the material is just as clean and safe in every way.

Some challenges with recycled polyester

Recycled polyester makes us less dependent on oil. The amount we convert, is equal to the amount of virgin fossil fuel we eliminate from our polyester raw material (this excludes potential dyeing and other post recycled polyester production treatments). With some exceptions, the challenge is not the conversion of polyester into recycled itself, but to make it available to everyone by keeping it affordable. Buying low environmental impact products often comes with a higher price tag. We want to change that by working to make recycled polyester products more affordable and accessible to the many people.

Only recycled polyester

IKEA is committed to end the dependency on virgin fossil materials and only use renewable or recycled materials by 2030. We are accelerating this movement for polyester in our range and aim to replace all virgin polyester in our textile products with recycled. In 2020, IKEA replaced 79% of the virgin polyester used in IKEA textile products with recycled polyester. In volume, this means we converted 130,000 metric tonnes of recycled polyester, and saved 200,000 tonnes of virign polyester. We haven’t reached our 100% goal yet, but we have come far and overcome many obstacles on the way. These volumes make us a leader in converting to recycled polyester and we hope that our decisions can inspire and motivate whole industries to change.

Responsible sourcing

At IKEA, we demand that all recycled polyester used in IKEA products shall come from recyclers that are compliant with the Global Recycled Standard and traceability is secured to the IKEA product through requirements toward the IKEA Suppliers. By only using recycled polyester that meets the Global Recycled Standards we manage to secure social, environmental and chemical practices at the recycler’s production. We believe that the GRS standard is the best standard on the market today. We work with our partners and textile organisations such as Textile Exchange to further improve standards on recycled materials, including traceability of material beyond the recycling units.

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
