Reviews

Glass Spontaneously ShattersLynnBefore you buy, check out this warning, it is well documented in reviews and elsewhere online. I had this cabinet for 5 years only to come home and find that the large back glass piece spontaneously shattered. Glass shards everywhere. So dangerous to remove. When I contacted customer service, received a very unconcerned, scripted "I will be sure and let the responsible group know." Why are they still selling this? Liability is huge since this occurrence is so well documented. Do not risk bringing this into your home1
Double the price SherriI bought one, love it. Wanted to buy a second & third one but they have since DOUBLED the price! So sad3
Looks amazingDavidFor the price, this is an amazing case. Assembly isn’t too bad, especially if you have a second set of hands to help you.5
Don’t bug! Poor quality XinjiaOne side of glass self exploded into thousands of parts, and it took me half a day to ensure all parts were cleaned. This is a quality issue and a lot of people faced this issue. I bought it two years ago in a store but couldn't find the receipt. When I called customer service for help, it was the worst experience I've ever had. The agent was sarcastic because I no longer had the receipt and ask for warranty. Despite being a fan of IKEA before, I won't buy any products from them again after this incident.1
Shelf is great for showing items offJamesI love the shelves, but it can be a bit wobbly when the door opens or closes. Last set the stickers on the doors could be smaller as they were hard to get off4
Broken groove made it impossible to buildMatthewThis is the first time I've had to return something to Ikea. The plastic groove the glass is suppose to fit into came bent. Because you have to go to the store with a receipt to get a new part, at that point I felt it was worth it just to return the entire thing. I would not mess with this thing.1
Run! Horrible Assembly ExperienceAndresTHIS PROSUCT IS NOT WORTH THE TIME & EFFORT IT TOOK TO PUT TOGETHER. RUN! DO NOT BUY THIS DISPLAY CASE. IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING & REDICULOUS TRYING TO FIT THE GLASS INTO THE GROVES.1
Used to be amazing, now they (mostly) stink.LarryI have 7 of these, purchased over many years now. The old ones for $60 were amazing. Then they went to $100 and the glass went to caca. Spontaneous detonation while your keepsakes are on a shelf is not something you want. Also the 'feet' quality aren't up to par now. One snapped off an empty case, while trying to move it a couple of inches. Now they're $130? More than double the cost and even cheesier. I used to have great respect for Ikea. They used to make a quality product at a reasonable price overall. Looks like they've gone to the dogs now. Makes me sad, actually.1
To expensive for medium product.DavidThis isn't worth $130. When it was half the cost wasn't bad.2
Display casesPatrickGreat cabinets for displaying larger 1/6 scale action figures and play sets. When I bought both of my cabinets, they were $99. Now $129 with no addition (lights, etc) or improvements made to the cabinets. Nice item, but getting more expensive than it’s worth. Shipping is a little expensive if you aren’t fortunate enough to have an Ikea within driving distance. They look great and are perfect for smaller spaces, but there are other comparable cabinets online, to choose from, so hopefully Ikea gets more competitive with their prices.4
Great cabinetJohnLove these cabinets. My only complaint is the dioder led lights were discontinued. Very hard to find lighting that will fit these cabinets.5
Glass door exploded - glass pieces everywhereKittyI've had this curio for several years & the shelves have very little weight on them. Today the front glass door spontaneously exploded into hundreds of glass pieces, which blew across the floor & living area & on the shelves. Prior to this, there were no cracks, it was aligned straight, nothing was near or leaning on it, etc. No idea why it happened or if others have experienced it but it's dangerous.1
Detolf glass cabinetAmberOnce constructed this is an absolutely amazing cabinet!!! I will say...instructions weren't great and I had to trouble shoot on YouTube but found a great video. The one instruction that should be mentioned is the long plastic corner pieces have to go on a certain way for the top to go on correctly. We had the glass in the grooves in the plastic corner pieces and they seemed to fit but it was incorrect. Make sure the wider plastic side is on the BACK of the cabinet...once we changed that..it went back together within 20-30 minutes. I would definitely buy another now that I know how to put it together ❤️5
Fantastic Display!MarandaDetolf, while heavy, was easy to put together and really shows off my collection!5
Detolf reviewLisaThese are great display cabinets - my only problem with them is that the price doubled since last year.5
Perfect glass cabinetDanielthis is perfect for displaying items because there is minimal interference from the cabinet itself -- almost all is glass. Price is also good, though assembly takes patience and some time.5
I absolutely love my detolf cabinetsRobyn R.The cabinet was fairly easy to assemble. I did shatter one glass shelf while getting them from the box. I had already purchased modified shelving.5
Something has definitely changed....ChrisI have an old Detolf that's great. That unit is solid and I can move it around without any issues. Tried a Blåliden that's supposed to be the replacement and realized how bad it truly is. So I returned that for another Detolf. During assembly last night I could see a speck/bubble in one of the side panels. Also the ladder frame threads for the bottom were fine but I had a really hard time getting the nuts to tighten on the top of the frame due to the paint on the threads. You could see that the paint was stripped off on the bottom of the ladder threads but definitely not on the top. Also, because of the paint on the threads for the top of the detolf assembly the amount of torque required to even start screwing them on was enough to torque and twist the ladder frame inside the cabinet. The entire Detolf is now slightly twisted and torqued. The door dragged on the bottom of the frame and required me lifting the glass inside the hinge using a piece of leather. Glass is thinner too. Sad..2
Love itMaryMy son is wanted it for his room and has his lego builds and collectibles In there. It looks nice just wish it had a light5
Great CabinetNancyLoved this cabinet for storing items in my bedroom. Took less than an hour to put together. Worth the price for the look!5

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
