great deskMalee W.I have 2 of these! one for each kid!! It is a nice size and looks great!!5

Good-looking and functional desk!JasonI've bought three of these now because I've been so happy with them. They're fairly easy to assemble and very sturdy. My only complaint is the plastic plastic screw cams they use for the drawers. They break super easily. The rest of the desk assembly uses the metal ones.5
Love it!NOTSETSimple classic looking furniture was a great replacement. Very pleased.5
Perfect work from home deskFrancesThe size of this desk is perfect for work from home but not so big that it overtook my guestroom5
bought in 2016, loving it sinceDina Y.fantastic desk. holds up to cats jumping off of it, and the wood is gorgeous. the drawers are great! i used this desk for the longest time until i moved. it was significantly cheaper (~30% less) when i originally bought it though!!! so, for the price i got it, its 5/5 value/quality. my only gripe is to dissemble it, you basically have to take the whole desk apart so that you can get the legs off. bit of a pain. but ive done it several times now and its fine. just takes some time.5
Elegant desk made with solid woodBernardThis is my 1st Ikea furniture setup with the last one 35 years ago. As you can tell, my wife and I are no spring chickens and from the moment we knew this item was in stock at our local Ikea store, till we brought the package home, the setup process was a breeze. The instructions were clear and parts complete. Took us under 2 hours to bring the pieces up to life. We like the look of the wood and felt strong enough to support 2 laptops, 1 huge 32.5" and 1 27" 4K monitors. The appearance of the desk looks classy that I splurged on 2 sets of Logitech MX keyboard, mice, desk pads, etc. to complement my workspace.5
Instructions and screws not lining upMa P.The instructions are not clear! Difficult to install probably the hardest furniture I put together. Its like a lego with missing pieces. This product suck. I want to throw it away.1
Quality Control NightmareLane A.Missing drill holes, couldn’t put it together because tapped holes for screws and dowels were missing just as other reviewers said. I had to drive 1 and half hours to pickup this desk and this is what i get… lost time, gas, stress from traffic, can’t believe it. I want my money back and a reimbursement for everything i had to go through for this. Absolutely furious!1
Looks good, but frustratingRod D.Cross beams underneath the desk drop down quite a bit, causing me to hit my knees on them constantly. Opening the drawers is just dragging wood against wood. The wood on top seems to be of good quality and looks just as pictured.3
Assembly Disaster - Missing Pre-Drilled HolesDAVD H.My Arkelstorp was missing pre-drilled holes on the underside of the desktop to attach the drawer rail as described in step two of the instructions. Two screw holes were missing and two dowel holes were missing. IKEA furniture assembly is hard enough without the poor quality control.1
Beautiful desk. Perfect size.lisaBeautiful desk. Perfect size.5
Not the best.RobertI did find the directions a bit confusing with the two side drawer option. Plus the fit and finish of the drawers are terrible. Fit together very poorly. Of course you build those last when the entire desk is already assembled. Wanted to return it but the work to disassemble it all was too much. I got the drawers to stay together and kept it all.4
I like that it isBarbaraI like that it is small enough to fit in the space I have but big enough on top to put things on.5
Eucalyptus deskANTONELLAToo soft top board of this desk. My kid was writing on the paper and it made indentation. Pretty desk but indentation made me disappointed4

Love It!SandraTook a while to find...but really spacious and clean looking desk!5
Beautiful Desk, but AWFUL quality control.LindsayI researched a new desk for MONTHS in early 2020. I finally found the Arkelstorp that met all my criteria (including a larger work surface than my current desk and drawers specifically to one side). COVID hit and then it was out of stock for a while. I finally ordered in September and it took a little less than a month to deliver. I live 4+ hours from the nearest store so delivery was my only option. The box it comes was much thinner than I expected. My brother carried it up to my office in one go. I was excited to build it as soon as I got it, but I had the same issue as someone else (believe me, I read EVERY review). The two end pieces of the desk with the legs weren't completely dry when they were packaged and the white tissue paper in the box stuck to the paint on the legs. When I unpacked it some of the tissue was still stuck on the legs, other parts had a white residue from the tissue paper that could not be cleaned off. I was VERY disappointed. I called IKEA immediately and they said the nearest store (4+ hours away) would mail me the replacement parts. I called a week later and it still wasn't shipped. The pieces finally arrived 2 weeks from when I first called. The new pieces were not damaged so I got to building immediately. For one person, it took me 2.5 hours to build. I would have been done a lot sooner if not for manufacturing quality control issues. If you buy this desk, be prepared to deal with some frustration. Major issues to be aware of: -General: The thick screws strip extremely easily. Be careful. -Drawer Slide - Step 10: Make sure that the drawer slide that is closer to the edge (not the side that the hand is pointing to in the photo) is 100% flush with the edge. This ends up being one of the slides for the top drawer. One of my drawer slides was slightly warped and didn't sit flush and I didn't realize until the end. Because it wasn't flush, the two drawers would not close completely (they kept hitting each other and were overlapping). Thankfully I could take the take out the slide at this point in the build. I had to be creative to find a solution. As the slide was warped, the screws didn't line up with the holes to make the slide flush and as most of the screws were too stripped for me to screw in again, I took out all four screws and drilled a new hole for a new screw (not from this desk) at the front of the drawer. I then put the screw at the opposite end (back of desk) back in and forced the slide as close to flush as I could and attached my new screw. The two screws are now the only thing holding the drawer up, but nothing heavy is going to go into it, so I'm not worried. The drawers now close but are still slightly crooked. I really wonder why this slide wasn't attached like the other top drawer slide by screwing directly into the bottom of the desk. If I had two more long screws of the right length I would have done that instead of my solution. -Drawers - Step 28: The dowels on one of the drawers would not push in. When I tried to attach the back of the drawer, the dowel actually pushed through the back of the piece, chipping the wood. Many of the dowels on the drawers were hard to push in as if the holes were not drilled deep enough. -Drawer Stoppers - Step 36 and 38: I'm not strong enough to screw in the drawer stop screws, so I'm not going to bother attaching the stoppers. These screws stripped too. So my desk is now built and upside down on my floor until someone can help me flip it. I'm frustrated with the quality control on this desk and that the drawers are still crooked with no way to adjust. It would be better if the drawers had a metal slide rather than wood. I'm hoping I don't have any additional issues with this desk and that it lasts many years. I'm buying a piece of glass to protect the top too. Hopefully this review helps someone else interested in buying this desk.3

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
