The best way to extend the life of your wooden outdoor furniture is by cleaning it regularly, not leaving it outdoors unprotected more than necessary, and re-staining it on a regular basis.Clean: Use a mild soapy solution. Wipe dry with a clean dry cloth.Maintenance: To prevent the surface from drying out and cracking, and moisture from penetrating into the wood, we recommend you to re-stain the furniture on a regular basis, for example once or twice a year.Storing: If possible, store in a cool dry place indoors. If the furniture is stored outside, cover it with a waterproof cover. After a rain or snowfall, wipe off excess water or snow from flat surfaces. Allow air to circulate to avoid condensation.

Good looking chaiserebeccaI can't stop bragging about the chaise and all of the Applaro pieces I bought around the same time (table, recliners, bench, chaise cushion). The stained wood is beautiful and looks like it costs a lot more than it did. I will say that I don't have a lot of faith in the durability of the stain, I've finished lots of wood pieces and can tell these only have a thin layer. But I plan on restaining them and adding some more weather resistant coating on top. I do have faith in the wood quality and found everything easy to assemble. I have concerns about the wheel assembly since there was some play on one side but we will go easy on it and hope for the best. Highly recommend!5
Beautiful addition to my pool areaPATRICIABeautiful addition to my pool area. Comfortable and stylish.5
Very happy with thisBethSimple to assemble and looks great!5
Beautiful outdoor chaisekellyc17Easy to assemble and looks great, nice features with adjustable back and wheels. I added some blue chaise cushions and they look beautiful by my pool. I hppe they hold up well and last a long time.5
ElgbcnI bought a month ago today.5
Great chaiseatDMGReal wood and priced fairly. Great value.5
Beautiful piece of FurnitureWburns1970I purchased two of these for our pool deck along with the center table/seat. I didn't purchase the chase pads from Ikea because I had some already and Ikea's is extremely thin. These were easy to assemble and look AMAZING. So happy with this purchase5
Great value for the moneyJohnmaBought these on sale, but even at the original price these loungers are sturdy and good value for the money!5
Fantastic for the priceLolo2182I’ve had these for a few weeks now out on my deck. They’re beautiful. They look just like similar products costing $300-$600. Assembly was little more than attaching the wheels. They move easily and the back support adjusts quickly.5
Looks are deceivingGeegee123Beautiful looking chaise lounge chair. Very cheap material as I did not even get to lounge. It doesn't hold weight and has already cracked. The wheels are wobbly after assembly also. Going to return it.2
Does not angle high enough for readingElle GeeI am SO disappointed! Ironically, I love this chaise, but I will be returning it because it will be impossible to sit up and read without at least two large pillows for back support. Honestly, it never occurred to me that the angle in the images for the chaise is the MAXIMUM that it will rise, but it is. Having said that, the wood is beautiful, the price point can't be beat, all the holes lined up perfectly, and it was reasonably easy to assemble (even by myself). I do agree that the wheels are wobbly, which would likely become an issue if I kept it. I am feeling very cranky right now. Not only do I have to disassemble the chaise and get it back into its packaging, I have to find a place in my overstuffed garage to store it until my IKEA store reopens and then schlep it there by myself. I know, I know, First World Problems. Be safe everyone!3
Great furnitureLilime17I love my new furniture is what I was looking for easy to assemble and super comfortable5
Moveable FeastMuzzywumpWe bought these to take advantage of the shade from trees all over the yard. Of course, which areas are shady depend a great deal on the time of day: South early in the morning, west later on, and east in the afternoon. These chairs are heavy enough that they stay put in wind, but are so easy to move on their wheels as we seek the shade. We didn't buy the cushions because we wanted to try them in the store, but the chair is very comfortable on its own, so we may go without! BTW, they were very easy to put together. One was done by one person alone, but it was easier with two people as recommended in the instructions.5
Looks like 3X the price!DenfriPurchased two of these chaise lounges while on IKEA Family price sale. Extremely happy with the look and and quality of the item. I've been shopping on line and have seen similar chaise's for 3 X the price of this item. Only assembly required was the legs and wheels, which were no problem if you follow instructions. Very satisfied with purchase!5
Colorado Deckbought to match the other outdoor furniture. looks great need to buy 1 more5
BeautifulCmd06These lounge chairs are beautiful. I’m so glad we got them! Would love to have gotten the pads that go on them too, but IKEA isn’t delivering those. It is unfortunate because stores are closed. For now, we are just using a towel, and it’s not bad at all because they are quite comfortable lounges.5
Nice looking.LynellaI have been happy so far with this Applaro Chaise Lounger. My only issue was that one of the holes is not lined up correctly for quick and easy insertion of the bolt. That is easily fixed buy unscrewing the corner metal bracket, adding the leg and then reattaching the corner metal bracket. Don't be discouraged, you can get it together.4
Very well designedRockNcrockTo-date, there has been no issues, looks great, easy to assemble, wish you had the cushions in stock. Keep up the good work IKEA5
Perfect size and qualityJasonkgatorHappy with quality, size, and price. Good value5

Furniture for you and the environment

Wood is a fantastic material: flexible and beautiful, durable and renewable. Ever since IKEA started, we’ve used wood as a raw material. We’re a global company and have a great responsibility to ensure that our production has a positive effect on people and the environment throughout the world. That’s why our goal for 2020 is that all wood which we use is to come from more sustainable sources. With the ÄPPLARÖ series, we’ve already achieved this goal – by finding various new wood species to work with.

Today we’ve achieved the goal that all the wood which we use for our outdoor furniture comes from more sustainable sources, which means that it is certified or recycled wood. The transition has been a given for us at IKEA, but it has also been a challenge. Much of the wood used for our outdoor furniture comes from Southeast Asia, where it has been difficult to gain a good insight into the entire process from forest and sawmills to the factory. But through close cooperation with suppliers and local authorities, we’ve achieved the result, says Ulf Johansson, who works with wood supply and forestry. "More sustainable forestry requires perseverance and long-term thinking, since profits are not achieved quickly, and many of our growers are small companies with limited resources. But we have been able to support them in this process both financially and in terms of knowledge-sharing", says Ulf.

Tough demands on life outdoors

Outdoor furniture must be durable, and throughout history, teak, which is a very hard wood, has been a popular choice of material. But the availability of teak produced in a more sustainable way is far too small, so to achieve our goal, we started looking for alternative wood types. Ove Lindén is an engineer and was working for IKEA in Malaysia when he discovered acacia's positive qualities in the early 2000s. "At the time it was not used for furniture, but was grown mainly for the paper industry. But when we saw people also made fence posts from acacia, we supposed it was resistant to rotting and durable ‒ and would also suit outdoor furniture. In addition, it has a beautiful color tone, just like teak", says Ove, and explains how acacia, which grows mainly in Malaysia and Vietnam, is grown on plantations where IKEA can have a good overview of the entire necessary production chain.

A type of wood to trust

Today, we use acacia for, among other things, ÄPPLARÖ, one of our most long-living outdoor furniture series. Over the years, new items have been added, and today ÄPPLARÖ is found in outdoor environments throughout the world. Ove Lindén has a theory of why it has become so long-lived. "It's a timeless and neutral series that suits many surroundings. In addition, over the years we’ve been able to streamline production and thereby keep the price down." The discovery of acacia has made us curious about finding more wood species from sustainable forestry. The journey continues towards higher quality and increased durability ‒ for you who use the furniture, yet also for people and the environment throughout the world where our furniture is manufactured.

Durable material with natural feel

All products in the ÄPPLARÖ series are made of solid, sustainably sourced dark hardwood acacia, commonly used in outdoor furniture because of its durability. All pieces come pre-treated with several layers of wood stain so they will stay fresh and new-looking longer before any maintenance is needed.

Lovable durable acacia

Acacia is a naturally durable and sturdy hardwood for outdoor use because of the high density of its wood fibers. For maximum protection it’s pre-treated with wood stain. By re-staining now and then you can enjoy it for many years.

Cushions are sold separately. Use VÅRDA wood stain, for outdoor-use when re-staining the furniture.
