The cold-start function prevents hot water waste and saves energy. When you lift the lever straight up, only cold water is released. The function restricts opening the lever fully to the right.
Hot water is released by turning the lever to the left. It is only then that hot water is consumed.
This is a durable faucet that you can use for many years, since the hard, ceramic discs withstand the friction that always occurs when you change the temperature of the water.

Beautiful but hard to use and wears outTraceyWe bought ours 7-8 years ago, when we added an IKEA sink and cabinet to our vintage bathroom and wanted a vintage look.
It was beautiful. Was even beautiful to the end. But deposits quickly built up in the swivel ball, and using anything to dissolve the deposits also dissolved the ball. Towards the end, the entire back half was gone and the front had a hole in it. Replaced with a Ranskar, the only vintage looking one left. I do hope IKEA comes out with another vintage-looking one. And I hope the Ranskar lasts.
We kept this one as long as we did because the receipt was no longer legible and I’m not sure if we had the family membership working when we got it; we were locked out for awhile.

Great faucet KeeganThis faucet is wonderful and has a charming appearance. It is pricey considering it was almost as much as my sink top but it's looks deserve the price.
Unfortunately, the first one I had delivered came missing all of the hardware and installation tool. I was able to return it to the store and get a new one with the needed parts but it was frustrating. Especially since I had plumbers at my house to install it with my new sink top and vanity. Basically, check the box before calling the plumber.
