Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect height I got this about two months ago. My bed is 28” high so I had a hard time finding a night stand but this was perfect. And it’s nice that it has the drawer to charge your electronics so you don’t use up table space.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor design/QC, but good bang for the buck I would recommend this nightstand only if (1) you understand its weaknesses/quirks and can live with them and (2) you live close to an IKEA store and can easily return it/get replacement pieces if you get unlucky with QC. I was looking for bigger/more substantial nightstands to go with our queen bed. We just moved cross country and bought a new house, so I wanted to spend as little as possible. Enter the HORNSUND nightstand. While I'd have preferred a true black, it IS very dark, and the solid wood construction and generous overall dimensions make it look and feel like a more expensive piece. It was initially a bit bland for my tastes, but swapping the knobs out for ones in mercury glass worked magic. I have a low platform bed, so I left off the feet - which leaves the nightstand at 25.75" tall. Be aware that the two rear holes for the feet will show if you do this, and IKEA didn't think to include some matching wood plugs for that possibility. For now, I just used a black sharpie and colored over the unfinished wood. This is how what could have been a 5 star rating became a 2 for the Hornsund Nightstand: 1. The wood used for the sides is REALLY thin, so there are zero tolerances. I have installed a ton of RTA (including IKEA) furniture over the past 25+ years. I am careful to screw things straight, and to not overtighten/force anything. Both nightstands wound up splitting on the right (as you're facing it) side. One splintered near the back edge inside in two places (visible in the lower open area), and the second nightstand wound up splitting - but not splintering, thankfully - more towards the upper middle, and is visible on the outside. 2. The top "drawer" isn't a drawer at all, it's a SHELF with a fake drawer front centered over it. It has just under an inch of clearance for your items. I know this because I can't fit my Kindle Voyage in its case unless I close it. I measured, and it's an inch tall at the thickest point in the open/folded back position. The shelf fits my Surface Pro 4 with slim case and keyboard cover, and the very small OEM power block with USB charge port also BARELY fits, but my non-OEM Kingdo power supply did NOT. I have a small, multi-port USB charger, which would have been perfect for that shelf on the second nightstand, but at a little over an inch tall, THAT wouldn't fit. If IKEA designed that drawer as an actual DRAWER (1) it would be more functional since it would be deeper and accommodate more/bigger items and (2) how the drawer pull installs wouldn't matter. 3. Be aware the drawer pull for the top (fake) drawer can't be swapped out without disassembling the drawer front (not complicated), and if you buy a knob that has the screw sticking out and uses a nut (instead of screwing into the knob itself), you must take the risk of drilling a hole into the edge of the shelf to accommodate that screw/nut. I had no problem doing that for the first nightstand, but the second nightstand didn't have the holes (to attach the drawer front) properly centered, so making the required off-center hole to accommodate the knob screw caused a small section of wood to break off of the shelf area. I hid that by wrapping the shelf with decorative contact paper before attaching the drawer glides. 4. The top shelf has no sides/back, so cables slide to the side and get wedged in the drawer glides, plus cables keep sliding off the back and into the nightstand. To access them again, you have to pull out the entire shelf. I have a nice, weighted cord organizer, but I couldn't use it because - you guessed it - it's not under an inch tall. I ultimately wound up clamping a large binder clip over the shelf's back edge, and pulled my USB charging cables through the top, silver wire handle to keep them in place. 5. IKEA keeps putting the ugly stickers about affixing furniture to a wall on the drawer bottoms - not the underside, but the top/inside. They couldn't stick these on the unit's backplate, where one could stare at it at leisure while hammering in the zillion little nails? That is a more logical place to put the warning, since that's where you'd install the wall mount hardware - plus the unfinished back has to be against a wall, so once the warning has been noted, it's not in the way. People also won't feel the need to remove it, so if they sell or give away the furniture down the road, the next owners will see the warning. The other, less ideal option (from a safety standpoint) would have been to make sure the sticker could be easily removed. 6. Quality control needs to be better. Across both nightstands, many of the screw holes weren't fully made, and some weren't aligned properly - including for the drawer glides. One hole was so far off I had to hammer in a tiny nail and hang the glide on that to get things put together (I live over 2 hours from IKEA). An improperly placed series of holes also caused me to damage the top shelf, and are likely responsible for the splitting I experienced on the nightstand sides. One of my nightstands also came with (3) of a different/wrong cam nut screw style (solid metal, not metal/plastic) mixed in that didn't have that metal skirt that indicates how far to screw them in. Thankfully, they still seemed to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking nightstand My husband and I each have one of these nightstands. We are enjoying using them and they look nice in our room. We had a little trouble putting them together but of course the second one was easier than the first. We opted to leave the feet off since it made the nightstands too tall for our bedframe which is low to the ground--we didn't want to be reaching up for our books and phones. Speaking of phones, We both keep our phones in the top "drawer" and we have our charging cords snaked through the drawer and behind the nightstand to the wall outlet. The cords continually fell behind the furniture until we used tape to attach the cords to the drawer. I wish there was a better, nicer looking way to solve this problem. Otherwise we are very happy with the large second drawer and the open space below.
