Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific little sofa! We bought three of these for the waiting area of an upscale tattoo parlor. They've been great! They look chic for the more sophisticated clients, but are washable and durable with their removable covers for the clients that get them filthy. Wow!! Really good!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really difficult (impossible) to assemble My friend and I tried for 8 hours to assemble this sofa. We followed the instructions precisely, but unfortunately the instructions were just not possible to follow. Like no matter what we did, we were not able to connect the relevant pieces of the sofa in line with IKEA's instructions. It seemed like the parts were defective. Which is totally plausible because I've purchased defective IKEA furniture in the past. Also, the sofa is way too big to take on the bus even though it is well packed. We managed to put it together, but because the parts literally wouldn't work-- the part of the sofa that you sit on is not taught and it feels like you're sinking when you sit in it. I can't even return the sofa because it would simply be way too much time and effort to deconstruct it and take it back to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rules! It is compact and nice looking. I went with grey instead of orange. (to old for bright colors) It could fit in any room. You can set it by the wall or in the middle of the room because the back is just as nice as the front.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good product.. but very bad assembly instructions We spent several hours checking out other sofas, before deciding on teh KNOPPARP. We had a very hard time assembling this product , as the instructions were vague. We have several IKEA products at home, and accustomed to putting together furniture, but this put us into shame! we returned the product back to the store. Our credibility with IKEA is getting dented.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lot of couch in a small package! Amazing design for a small package. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort. Not a lay on it all day and watch tv couch, but for sitting and visiting it’s perfect. It’s basically a camping cot with arms and a back. Love the design of the slip cover that keeps it in place. Fabric seems pretty durable and wipes up easily. And we can easily fit three larger adults on it at once.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cool minimal style..but.. We purchased this couch because it was small enough that we could get it home in our hatchback without the delivery price, and we thought it was good deal at the time. Initially we were happy with it, it has a very nice minimal modern look and assembly was fairly easy, The orange color is great with our mid-century modern theme. Its compact and takes up very little space in our den area. Now for the "But" part, its not long enough for me to lay down on (I'm 6'2"), the padding in seat area is already getting smashed down after a few months, and you just can't get be comfortable on this thing without a throw pillow which it does not come with, had to buy those later. The metal arms have almost zero padding, just little wool pads, so you can never get fully comfortable against an arm. Also threads coming out after the short amount of usage. Just not comfortable for even the duration of a movie, I wake up stiff after a curled up nap. Would be great for office seating, no so good for home. Probably going to attempt a return for this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the bright orange color! Easy to assemble. Comfortable sitting as low to floor and feet can be placed on floor. Perfect size for small living area. Could be improved with a bit more padding.

An easy-to-carry innovator

It's hard not to like a sofa. After all what other furniture can you sit, snack, snooze or just hang out on through a rainy afternoon? Of course, some trouble can arise if you have a very small space or have to move the sofa.

Luckily the KNOPPARP sofa can help out on both counts. But its helpfulness doesn't stop there. You see, it's also one of the most affordable sofas we've ever made, a challenge that had its design team completely rethink how to make a sofa (as well as take a little inspiration from a trampoline).

Cutting costs through design

All IKEA products have affordability as one of the key parts of their design, but we create certain products from the beginning to be especially so. We call them "breath-taking items" or BTIs, and they're designed to have the lowest price on the market for a particular type of product — like a sofa. "We'd tried to make a BTI sofa before," KNOPPARP developer Jerry Svensson explains."And had never got the price to where we wanted it, so we knew that with KNOPPARP we'd have to try something completely different." The first part was determining where the money is normally spent when making a sofa. "When you break down your typical sofa," Jerry says, "the biggest expenses come in three parts; the wood needed to make a frame, the fixtures you need to put the sofa together, and the foam to make it comfortable."

A step in the right direction

Walking home one day, KNOPPARP engineer Gerd Rodhe pondered the sofa price dilemma. Pausing for a moment next to his house, he could see his neighbor's kids stretched out relaxing on a trampoline. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that using a fabric stretched between a metal frame would be a good way to make a comfortable seat without using expensive materials. Jerry picks up the story. "Soon after that we started breaking down what we needed to make a sofa without adding a high cost to the final price." he says. "And we landed on using a metal frame, the trampoline-like seat, and to cut down on foam we developed a fabric cover that's quilted for comfort." With designer Nike Karlsson, the team also took into account the expense of fixtures by swapping most of the screws for metal parts that can click together making the sofa easy to assemble once you've brought it home.

Light enough to take on the bus

Another goal was that KNOPPARP would be light enough that you could take it home on the bus. "When we started we said 'wouldn't it be nice if we could fit a KNOPPARP flat pack into an IKEA shopping bag?'" Jerry says, "And it became almost like a competition to work out different ways to divide it so the packaging became smaller. And while fitting inside a shopping bag turned out to be slightly ambitious, the final version ended up 68" long and weighing a two person carry-friendly (or one if you're extra strong) 52 lbs. Jerry's proudest moment with KNOPPARP though is its sustainability. "By being really selective with the materials we used, KNOPPARP is almost completely recyclable, making it a real innovator for more sustainable sofas in the future."
