I loved how it looked in the store, but...PatriciaThe product I actually received was extremely flawed. There were multiple areas of bubbled paint, areas where it looked like they tried to unsuccessfully repair or paint the flaws, a long crack in the footboard, another crack along the edge of the footboard, nicks in the wood, and spots that appeared to be dirty smudges on different parts of the bed. I reported the damages to customer service and I'm awaiting a potential partial refund offer. If that isn't acceptable, I will have to disassemble the bed for them to pick up and replace. Again, the style of the bed is great, it wasn't hard to assemble, and I also bought the two night stands of the same brand that had no issues, but the bed was a huge disappointment as far as quality.2
Wood split on footboardSherryThis is our second purchase of the exact same bed frame from the IKEA Hemnes line. Our first was a queen, and we loved it enough that when we moved, we decided to buy the larger version for our guest bedroom. Unfortunately, this second purchase has been a major disappointment.
The solid wood on the footboard split straight down the middle after only about three months. The most frustrating part is that the bed has only been slept in once, so it hasn’t experienced any real wear or stress. For a piece advertised as solid wood and known for durability, this was really unexpected.
We’re disappointed in the quality of this particular frame, especially given how well our first one held up.1
Ain't Like It Used To BeCaitlinThis is the third Hemnes bed I've purchased over my life. My first two were purchased in 2005 and 2006 and were so solid! Got married, and I wanted to buy a Hemnes bed. We purchased this bed in 2017. We moved in 2020 and we went to bed that night in our new house. We woke up in the middle of the night to a loud cracking sound and the bed collapsing at the footboard. Hubby went to the car to get 2 ratchet straps and he used them to hold the footboard together. We said we would replace the bed when we had another $450 hanging around in our bank account. In 2025, I got into bed, and another collapse happened. The footboard was fine (still held together by ratchet straps), but the metal SKORVA beam failed. It ripped at the headboard. Straight up ripped 3/4 of the way. Husband brought a car jack that we used under the old SKORVA. Now it's 2026 and I am so disappointed with the quality of this bed. It really didn't used to be this way. Shame on you ikea!2
A Sturdy and Good-Looking BedChristopherI bought this bed, along with two nightstands and a 3-drawer dresser from the same collection, for a guest bedroom we had renovated. I assembled everything myself because I had the time. I only had one minor hiccup with the assembly guide where it was not clear how many dowel pins were needed. But I was able to quickly resolve it. My advice is to match up all the parts before each assembly step to avoid errors. I can also say that subsequent pieces will get easier as many of the assembly methods are common to all the furniture.
Overall, I am impressed. The bed is rock solid. I did pay a little extra for the framed foundation and that probably helps with structural integrity.
The Hemnes collection is very nice looking and solidly constructed. I will definitely consider buying additional furniture from IKEA and would recommend,5
Looks aren’t everything CassandraI love the way this bed looks, but its life expectancy is shorter than I’d imagined when I purchased it. The side board on the right fell out of the headboard and gouged the leg of the headboard severely. The footboard on the left fell out while we attempted to secure the first broken spot. Lord help me if the 30 pound dog jumps up, we may be on the floor. Got this bed 7 years ago next week. I’ll miss it. 2
Footboard brokeAnnThe footboard broke, collapsing the bed and making it unusable after only a year of use and well under the 600 pound weight limit.1
King Size breaks at headboard twiceCarolIn less than 5 yrs broke twice at connection between side board and headboard. Wood cracked and screw bent and hole where screw goes in has been eaten away. Warranty is only good for 6 mths, so yay me! I hate throwing money away so I will have to order spare parts (free, yay again), and do some DIY hacking to fix it. Can't WAIT!!!1
Looks greatJamieLove this bed. Looks great, super sturdy and not terribly hard to put together.5
Proud ownerIsaacI bought one many years ago and it still looks like a modern piece of architecture. I think I made a very good choice.5
Perfect bed frameClaraReally like my new modern looking white bed .
I like simple clean lines and this bed has all that. Highly recommend.5
Nice looking but… JaimeI love the way it looks. It’s very difficult to make up. My biggest issue is how much it pops and creeks. I have the same bed in a full size and it doesn’t make a sound. This king size one though makes all kind of noise. Every time my spouse turns or moves the noise wakes me up. I can hear when he moves in it from the living room. Really disappointed in the quality of this one vs the full size one we have. 2
Great looking bed frameKrystleI have had my eye on this bed frame for a while now. Its durable and fits nicely with my other HEMNES pieces in my bedroom. Because its wood, my only complaint is that it creaks and cracks frequently but I'm hoping overtime that works itself out. Very easy to put together, took maybe 35-45 mins. 5
HemnesCharlesHemnes is a functional bedframe. It supports my wife, myself, and intermittent kiddos (nightmares, sick etc) throughout the night. 5
Great Bed!MarkThis is a fantastic bed. Great value for your $. I’m buying another. First was damaged by wheelchair when I had vascular necrosis. Wheelchair hit side of bed many times. Definitely not a flaw in construction. I think bed would have lasted many, many years had it not been for my health issue Hopefully no medical issues this time. Fingers crossed. 5
The worst squeaky bedTeI've had my HEMNES bed for two years and it has always squeaked. Please IKEA give me a fix to make it stop squeaking! It is driving me crazy. 1
Lasted 11 years. DanielPurchased in 2014 and it's been through several moves, assembled and disassembled multiple times granted these things aren't made to be put together and taken apart over and over again but it's held up.
Finally after 11 years it finally broke beyond repair and was quite comical when it happened.
I'm back on the website looking to purchase another one because that's how much I like it. 4
I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore.MatthewMy only complaint is that you would need to secure it to the wall if you're not on carpet as the bedframe tends to slide if you just jump onto it. Otherwise, I'm happy to own a bedframe that doesn't squeak every time I lay down.4
Great value and qualityMarkgreat product5
Owned for 9 years!MorganWe have had this bed with the lonset slats for 9 years now and it withstood a move! I don’t experience the creaking noises like some have said, and the screws have never needed to be retightened. The assembly wasn’t a problem for us either, you just need to be familiar with putting together IKEA furniture. We have multiple Hemnes style products in our home and I would recommend all of them! The only minor issue is the softness of the wood, as it does leave dents/scratches, but it just gives it a rustic look!5
Crack in sideboardMuthuBought a king Hemnes in May 2023 for our guest room . Used once for 5 days during thanksgiving . Noted a crack 2 m 4 inches long that’s across the whole thickness of the sideboard. ago in the middle of the top half of the side board . Am unable to get a spare side board . We had task rabbit install it .
?poor quality of solid pine wood
Any ideas of gluing it together ?1
