Broke during installAnonymousThese finials look really nice, but when trying to thread the first one onto the rod, the threaded portion broke free and those couldn't be attached. I disassembled the part to analyze the failure and it looks like the threaded portion is either glued or lightly brazed to the inside of the bottom cup. It is easily overpowered by the torsional force required to attach it to the curtain rod. Ikea should revisit this item to keep the same look, but make it more sturdy for installation and longevity.1

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
