Perfect planters for every home

Discover the charm and functionality of well-chosen planters, transforming your living spaces into lush, green havens of tranquillity and style.

How do I choose the right planter for my space?

Begin by considering the size and weight of the plant you wish to house. Larger, more robust plants will require sturdy garden pots that can support their weight and growth. Conversely, smaller, delicate flora may be better suited to lighter, more decorative flower pots. The material of the planter also plays a crucial role. Options range from classic terracotta, which offers breathability and a timeless look, to modern plastics that provide durability and a lighter frame. Remember to factor in drainage needs and the environmental conditions of the space where the planter will reside.

What planters can do for your decor

Planters offer a dual advantage: they are both functional and elegant. They make it possible to cultivate a variety of greenery indoors, from the tiniest succulent to the most expansive fern. This green infusion not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your home but also contributes to a healthier living environment by purifying the air and adding a sense of calm. Moreover, planters are a versatile design element. They can be used to create focal points, divide spaces subtly, or add a cohesive look to a room.

Should plant pots have drainage holes?

Plant pots don’t need to have drainage holes in the bottom. However, the drainage hole does help the plant by providing ventilation and protecting roots and soil from flooding. The drainage hole at the bottom provides ventilation to the plant. It lets air through the soil in the pot, which can be crucial to some plants, but less necessary for others. With a drainage hole at the bottom of your planter, the risk of overwatering is minimized. This is because any excess water just sips out through the hole in the bottom. Simply place a saucer underneath the pot to gather up the water and protect your floors from spillage. Or you can save time and keep your plants’ moisture levels with a self-watering pot.

Another way to add drainage and ventilation to your plant is by putting a pot within a pot. When you buy a plant, you will usually get it in a plastic inner pot. This can simply be put in the larger pot without replanting. Any excess water will then be drained from the inner pot to your plant pot and can easily be poured out. Additionally, some ventilation is provided by the air between the pots.  Mix and match outdoor plant pots in different styles and materials to add a colourful look to your patio or balcony.

Do plant pots need saucers?

If you have a plant pot with a drainage hole, and you’re planning on using it indoors or on a wooden deck, a saucer is a good idea. The saucers help protect your floors from getting water damage from any excess water that leaks through the pot.

Can plastic plant pots be recycled?

There is nothing special about the plastic in plastic plant pots. They can be recycled as other plastics.  Just make sure to clean the pot before recycling it. Soil is compostable, so try to throw away leftover soil in a compost or pour it out in an outdoor flower bed. Clean the inside of the plant pot with a paper cloth and rinse it out before recycling.
