Functional and real woodMadelynnI’m going to paint or stain it to match my decor a bit better. I really like that it’s real wood and not pressed board. Has a nice wood smell to it.4
TARVADianneThe hardware, the screw heads, damaged easily and the chemical odour from the dresser was quite strong causing irritations of both throat and nose while assembling. I have bought IKEA furniture often over my 72 years of living and never experienced such a harmful odour before, but I still really like the size and the look of this dresser and I am keeping it.3
ExcellentMariaExcellent product. Very easy to assemble. Beautiful look5
PracticalFUMIKOWell priced and good starter piece. Roomy drawers and fairly easy to assemble. It is unfinished so plan on painting or staining and finishing.4
A quality piece of furniture.RichardWhat can I say. Ikea can through once again. It took me less than an hour to put it together. The instructions were clear, easy to read and understand. All the pieces fit together perfectly, making it a very smart, warm and comfortable piece of furniture. Functional and simple. Being made from actual wood, all I did to finish it was sand it down with 220 grit then 600 grit sand paper then applied 4 coats of clear satin laquer. This piece again is a cozy addition to my bedroom.5
Good for the priceINGAThis is an excellent dresser, for the price. Sturdy, and solid wood. The only problem is that the screws are a very soft metal and strip when trying to sink them into the wood, so they end up sticking out slightly and thus the drawer wheels catch on them.4
NoJenniferI should have listened to the reviews but the price had me at Hello. When I unboxed it and saw the quality of the wood and how solid it was I thought, surely the other reviewers were wrong. My first red flag was that the drawer brackets were missing and I had to go back to Ikea to get some, but human errors happen. I don’t hold it against them. I put it all together and, frankly, the dresser itself is impressive. Solid. Sturdy. Aesthetically pleasing. Begging for a gorgeous stain or just to be left alone. Then I tried to slide in the drawers. It looks like a fun house dresser. It looks like a 3 yo put it together. They are cheap and sidewalks and absolutely won’t fit. I took them apart 4 times wondering if it was my workmanship. It wasn’t me. It’s definitely the drawers. For the price, I’m not going to return. I’m ditching the drawers and replacing with baskets. But be warned before you buy. I wish I could add pictures to this review so you could see.1

Pretty Good DresserJoanneI bought Tarva on sale and it seems worth the same price, maybe not worth regular price. It was simple enough to put together and feels solid although I feel like the drawers are somewhat unstable. I painted it and added my own drawer pulls and it was fun to personalize it how I wanted it. I wish Ikea sold more plain pine furniture.3

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in a responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favourite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the wood species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
