What is jute?
The jute fiber is extracted from the bark of jute plants. It is a soft, shiny fiber that can be spun into a strong yarn and then woven into textiles. We use jute for rugs, bedspreads, cushion covers and more. A good thing about jute is that it requires fairly low amounts of water and very low amounts of fertilizers and pesticides to be successfully cultivated. Residual material from jute production can be used for bio energy, building materials and more.
