Almost like sitting on the couch!AmenpMy dog loves being higher. We use it opened with LURVIG.4
Not just for pets…Carson TWhen I saw this I thought it would make the perfect singles ladies man coach my son. You know what? It did! It’s pretty awesome. It’s his own little couch in the living room but he gets to sit on and watch TV at…4
Adorable dog sofaHoolagalI bought this for my 6 pound dog it is absolutely adorable. When it is folded out, it fits his 28 pounds perfectly too. Only because I’m impatient, when I got it home and out of the box it was annoying I had to wait three days for the foam to fluff up :o)5
Great dog bedBuddy66One of my two dogs loves to scratch in his beds and on his mats. He has made holes in every bed but not the IKEA bed. It is so well made with great fabric. He will enjoy it for many years.5
Perfect for small dogsBrandyT82This product is super easy to put together! Super easy to wipe clean and it very durable! It will last awhile! I have a small dog who is 8 weeks old so I keep it open cause when it’s shut it’s pretty tall the only thing I see that’s a negative is it’s not that big for a bigger dog when it’s shut like a couch but mabey that’s why it has the option to open. Either way it’s well worth the money and also looks great in my livingroom cause it matches my Kivik furniture!5
Cat sofa bedCT002My cat loves it however not very functional when folded to a couch so we leave it open all the time4
_angGood product, although I think slightly overpriced. The fabric is a bit slippery, which is great for cleanup, but not so great if your pet has stability issues.4
Great dog bedFetchThis pet product is an excellent size for my shelties, very versatile with the fold out section making it larger.5
Perfect bed for small dogs 10 pounds and under.Mocha GBought this 2 weeks ago and my dog loves it.5
I Lurv it!!JewlieBought this for my pet rabbit and he loves stretching out on it! It's the cutest thing ever! I did have to cover the cushion with a blanket though, so that it's not too slippery for him. Otherwise, it's everything I'd hoped for and more.5
Attractive and functional.S0f1aI've been looking for something just like this at a reasonable price, so I'll be buying one or possibly two of these. But it would be helpful if they came in other colors as I have two light colored dogs so those black covers are going to look a mess everyday. Maybe a top pad that can be thrown in the washer regularly, or color choices that include a beige or gray that don't show the hair so much :-) anyone who owns a dog or cat knows that black is the worst color for showing hair. Thanks :-)4

Made for our four legged family members

"I feel that my pets are the ones who can really take me to the present moment. When we share our time together, my head is more free and other worries and stress fall away. They teach us respect, and their unconditional love is priceless."  Read More
If you're a pet owner, designer Inma Bermudéz's words might be something that rings true to you too. After all, our pets give us a lot, from that wagging tail that welcomes us home, to that calm company next to us on the sofa, or that unconditional love at every other time. If you ask us we figure it’s time to give them something back. That's why we brought in Inma to work on the LURVIG range, which is designed to help out all aspects of life with our dogs and cats. Not to mention be long lasting and affordable, while fitting in with your existing home furnishings. As Inma says: "Our pets have their own personalities but they have five things in common: they love sleeping, eating, playing and exercising and being close to us. So these behaviors have been the first thing on our minds when designing these products."

Designing from a pet's perspective

Of course designing products for pets rather than humans has its own set of rules and things to consider. To help out, the LURVIG range was developed with the assistance of trained veterinarian Dr Barbara Schäfer, who also works with product risk assessment at IKEA. Barbara has an extensive background working with pets from hamsters and rats all the way up to dogs and cats. She says the biggest challenge is not to "humanize" pet products. "It's really important to use animal’s natural needs and behaviors like how they sleep, eat or play as a starting point. Then we can design a product that fits in with our "human needs" such as style and form." The first thing to consider was safety: "Dogs will definitely chew on their toys and bring in dirt from their daily walks. Cats will definitely scratch on most surfaces and are sensitive to smell and texture. So safe, durable materials are very important." As well as looking at animal behaviors like eating. "Cats are generally good at regulating how much food they eat, however a number of dog breeds still retain the desire to overeat. That's how the "slow feed" bowl became part of the LURVIG range. By using a design that breaks up a bowls internal surface area, it prevents the dog from being able to inhale their food in one or two gulps."

Matching human design with pet design

How often when watching your pet do they go for the same toy or blanket and return to a cozy spot to chew or maybe just have nearby as a comfort? Rounding out the LURVIG design process was the focus that our pet's live with us at home as part of the family — even if they do take the odd shoe or two. For Inma, that led to a friendly smelling bed. "The piece that I'm most proud of is a pet cushion that we encourage owners to fill with their old clothes, blankets or towels. The idea’s that pets get a comfortable cushion with comfortable, familiar smells too." The LURVIG range also matches with some IKEA classics, like a cat bed that fits perfectly into a KALLAX shelving unit and a pet sized version of a sofa bed that matches our human sized ones. Final words though go to Inma to sum up their ambition of the range. "I share my life with three dogs and I've always missed nice pet products at an affordable price. As an animal lover I’m proud and happy to be part of this project. I would love it if it inspired people to spend more quality time with their pets."
