The cotton in this product is grown with less water, less chemical fertilizers and less chemical pesticides, while increasing profit margins for the farmers. That way, we lower our environmental impact.

We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.

Ratings and reviews

Can"t believe bad reviewsMary400Bought this over a year ago and love, love, love it. Bought both the yellow and grey covers. The yellow looks stunning and super high end with grey accessories and wall colour. Covers wash up like a dream if you follow instructions. I wash in the afternoon, put on damp and leave overnight to dry. Daily use with cat, dog and grandkids. Looks great!5
Lumpy eyesore.Anonymous reviewerPurchased this in November. The fabric is very well done, and a natural cruelty-free alternative to leather. The seat portion is firm and provides a great sleep. However, it is extremely lumpy and partitions into quite obvious strips which because the fabric is white, look like Always pad strips. If they could make a half decent bottom I guess the sofa might be worth twice as much. For now, a comfortable and yet irritating eyesore.2
not happyacairnsI love the style and depth of this sofa but the white slipcover is garbage. Its a yellow white colour and after washing it for the first time without bleach it came out splotchy. Its very noticeable in person with some areas more yellow and some a true white. It always looks dirty. I've tried adding bleach and still it looks the same. After about 5 washes my seat cushion is the most white and everything else looks more yellow. I'm saving up to buy a new slipcover from Bemz online which will cost a couple hundred more. Save your money and just buy a better sofa.2
Comfortable and elegantLanaBBeing an extra deep sofa means it's extra comfy for lying down to read or watch tv. In general I'm really pleased with it, however, two points to note: (1) after only two months I notice the seat cushion sags slightly in the spot I usually sit. It's not the type of cushion that can be flipped so I'm hoping the indentation doesn't get worse, and (2) I've bought/assembled Ikea furniture for decades and this is the only item that had an issue with getting one arm to align properly, so screwing it on to the sofa frame was problematic (even after returning to the store for a replacement arm, the 2nd attempt was still challenging!). It's a fairly new item so hopefully they'll iron out the kinks soon. The silver lining was when I ordered an accompanying love seat, I decided to use Ikea's assembly service. It was great! Prompt, professional, efficient and inexpensive! I'll definitely use the assembly service again.4

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable and renewable fibre that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry. By only using recycled cotton or cotton from more sustainable sources, working with partnerships and initiatives on the ground and prioritising compliance, we believe that we can make a positive impact in the world of cotton.

100% cotton from more sustainable sources

Since 2015, all cotton in IKEA products is either recycled or comes from more sustainable sources*. This means that we only source cotton grown using sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of fertilizers, pesticides and water, improve working conditions and earnings for farmers, and benefit ecosystem health and biodiversity conservation. We have set up a system that enables use to trace all our cotton and ensure that the final product is from approved, certified sources. *Cotton from more sustainable sources commits to the following schemes: Better Cotton (as defined by BCI, including their equivalence in various geographies), cotton from farmers working towards the BCI standard (TBC).

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labour, child labour or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibres. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
