A definite ‘miss’MarcelGreat looking item in the store. Unable to open the glass door in the store for understandable safety reasons. Had I been able to, I would have seen that the frame is held together via flimsy rods and plastic. Whyyyy would you use cheap flimsy rods to hold together an otherwise beautiful and expensive looking glass cabinet?? Also, the glass started to chip as I moved each of the pieces into place. Disaster. One of the few ikea items I’ve returned.1

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
