Very bad designThis is the first time I purchased this product and it was not what I was expecting at all. I am a big fan of the way Ikea products are usually very well designed, but they dropped the ball on this one. They obviously never tried to install this anywhere or else it would have never gone to market. Contrary to previous remarks it has nothing to do with the wall being straight or the type of anchors used. Once properly installed on any wall, the shelf sags naturally and can be pulled away from the wall by about 1/16-1/8 on a inch, which are both unacceptable for a any consumer product. This product should be pulled from stores and a design review should be done.
Those who want to keep the product and find a fix to the problem, here is a solution: Using glue similar to PLPremium, the upper metal ledge can be glued (permanently) to the shelf and will stabilize it and prevent movement and sagging. The shelf must be held into the wanted position until the glue dries completely, ideally from underneath.

Doesn't workI bought this shelf to replace a 10 year old pink lack shelf as we were updating a room. I assumed I could just replace the shelf not the hardware so was disappointed to see the hardware had changed.
I installed according to direction. The shelf was wobbly. I tried again still wobbly. Emailed Ikea, tried the suggestions, again not secure.
It has become apparent that the issue is the fact that the wall is not 100% flush, which most walls are not.
The fact that I used the old style mount in the same place for 10 years and it was safe and secure shows this is a design flaw.
This shelf is going in the trash as that is where it belong

Lack shelfWe know we have installed the shelf correctly but it slants forward and down and it is a good job we do not have heavy items on it.

Wont hold 5 poundsI bought two different sizes for my office space, installed them as per instructions. Shelf are unstable, inclined forward and even though there are no visible screws, the finish product doesn't look good as they don sit straight in the walls

It looks good but horrible design.I have a few of these shelves. Not meant for anything over 15 pounds or it will sag. They should have kept the other design with the rods that went inside the shelf. This new design with the bracket is horrible and only works decent if you use wall anchors. I used wall anchors and it is ok. Without that modification the shelf will rock and sag down.

Great shelving with a modern lookI bought three shelves to store some Blu-Ray movies and a few pictures. Nothing that would approach the 30lb wait limit of the product so I'm happy with it's sturdiness. I am concerned about the shelving pulling away from the way though, the screws that I imagined would secure the shelf to the bracket do not appear to accomplish that. Instead, the screws keep the shelving from moving left or right on the support bracket but a quick pull away from the wall and away they go. If you have younger kids in the home, this may be a point of concern if you are installing the shelves lower to the floor, especially if they are learning to walk by pulling themselves up on things.
Pro-Tip, If you are using drywall anchors to help secure the brackets to the wall, use anchors that will sit flush to the wall. The ones I used protrude a little bit and did not allow the shelving to sit flush to the wall. It's not incredibly obvious so just be aware if this will be important to you.
The directions also state not to install the shelf screws all the way and to leave about 3mm sticking out. This will take away from the "floating shelf" look as the support hardware will be clearly visible if the shelves are at eye level or higher. I would encourage anyone to be "buyer aware" regarding these points and maybe Ikea could make some changes moving forward if others share these concerns? Thanks!

The shelf becomes one with the wall thanks to the concealed mounting hardware. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/images/products/lack-wall-shelf-brown__60204_PE166208_S4.JPGLACK Wall shelf, black-brownhttp://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/70159100/701.591.00IKEA$29.99
