We got 2 diffrent beds - one Black Malm which took him ALL DAY . But mines - it was only 1,5 hour .. I got it diffrent one and it's fantastic .. Only problem is that these bed take ONLY. STANDARD DOUBLE MATRESS. I got one from previous bed and I got it as double - ikea ... Niw Ikea changed the measurement and has changed to STANDARD. DOUBLE .. where is 3-4 cm difference in length & width..
So make sure you get your bed with the Double STANDARD. MATTRESS !!!!!3
Lasts around 5 yearsAnonymous reviewerI brought this bed and was fine for the first 2 years it states you can sit up and prop cushions behind however that makes the head board looser. I brought with an Ikea mattress but that is heavy to keep taking off and tightening up. The draws under neath did not last a year and have given up with the wheel mechanism. When I purchased it came with a rubber stoppers for the slats but since on Ikea website they have changed from the rubber stoppers to some sort of hook. I would recommend this bed to be used lightly and not as a dominant everyday bed. And after contacting customer services to replace damage items you have to see if they have them in store so buy this bed if you want less than a year with now problems or occasional use. Love the malm rang but not this bed! 3
Squeaky, no moreAnonymous reviewerI usually read reviews before making a purchase but didn't on this occasion. Other reviews about the bed squeaking might have put me off.
The bed went together easily, as did the storage boxes, but every time my wife and I turned over the bed squeaked and woke us up. Fortunately I had experienced this with another Ikea bed and knew what to do. I removed the mattress and slats and cut rubber into strips of the appropriate width for the three metal rails. Reapplied the slats and mattress and the problem was solved. Perfectly happy with the bed following this minor modification.
I think Ikea should look into this and perhaps, at little or no cost, supply the rubber strips as part of the bed. 4

Lovely bed for teenage son Anonymous reviewerIt was time to move our 14 year old son into a double bed and we chose the ikea malm. Delivery was fast, the drivers were friendly & my husband built the bed easily and quickly. We also got a mattress from ikea too. Overall we are very happy and have just bought our daughters double from ikea too. Cannot beat Ikea! 5

However its squeaks like crazy!!! The slats make a crunching sound which granted can be fixed if I just buy better slats but the bed itself squeaks. All you have to do is sit up and it’s playing its own tune. For your own sanity I would not recommend. 1

Creaky!Anonymous reviewerBed is VERY loud. Sitting on it, rolling over etc... I've never had this issue with other beds. That said I've paired it with the firm VALEVÅG mattress and it's very comfy. Drawers are a good size too but don't bother going for 4 drawers if you like having bedside tables. A bit fiddly to build and you will hit your shins on the frame a lot. Looks nice but disappointed with the noise level.2

Great looking bed, nice deep drawers that are fantastic and easy to move. I have had expensive furniture and beds from various places over the years and the ikea malm are indistructable so far. 5
