Reviews

Check before purchasingAnonymous reviewerThis driver only worked for a single light not the three that I had planned for my kitchen so check or just buy the bigger one so it’s future proof2
1★ – Works, but the ecosystem is broken.Anonymous reviewerTRÅDFRI itself works because it’s Zigbee, but the overall IKEA smart home ecosystem is a mess. Thread devices cannot be used, DIRIGERA lacks Thread support, and the system is not fit for purpose. Not recommended until IKEA fixes their firmware rollout.1
Excellent product.Anonymous reviewerEasily fitted. Does the job perfectly5
Just what I wantedAnonymous reviewerI bought 3 cabinets and fitted lamps in each of them, each connected to a TRÅDFRI. With the wireless remote I was able to set up various light levels and of course, on and off. I will be investing in more. Thank you.5
It won't works with Dimmer Switch!Anonymous reviewerWhat a pity the driver wont work on dimmer!1
Good DriverAnonymous reviewer3 outputs with total 10W. Sufficient for a single bookshelf lighting setup of 3x LED lamps. Very good as long as you check your required output power for your light setup before buying.5
Too weak, too confusingAnonymous reviewer10w is a joke or what? And it's not per output it's total for all 3! The compatible LED strips are designed to be connected in a chain, however even a chain of 2 strips will most probably exceed the wattage limit. What was the point of even making this device?! It seems like it's only there to confuse new customers and make them make a mistake and buy extra. I shouldn't need to calculate the wattage and find the difference between ikeas similar power suppplies. I need to buy one and be sure that it's enough to power several kitchen units Definitely a product to avoid. Absolute rubbish. Now I need to go to Ikea again (waste more time) and buy another power supply. I can't even return this one 'cause it's past the return window and I don't have the receipt and packaging anymore Even less trust to electronics from Ikea now1
Have 2Anonymous reviewerBrilliant 5
Can't handle 3 LED stripsAnonymous reviewerThis product doesn't do what it's supposed to. It has 3 ports, when you connect 3 Oversidan led strips to it they all flash and strobe, if you disconnect any 1 of them the remaining 2 strips behave as expected. This product is designed to handle 3 lights and it can't, terrible and useless.1
Great product when used with appropriate fittingsAnonymous reviewerTransformer for Sensors light5
Great productAnonymous reviewerIt’s a great product to connect wardrobe lights on, would be ideal if there were other versions with more connecting points. I know you can connect more together though. I noticed a significant price increase within a few months (from £15 to £22) - not sure why such a steep increase (bought one in June and one in August)5
A must if buying some lights...Anonymous reviewerThis is a must if buying some lights. Works like a dream too. So glad Ikea told me I would need it too.5
Doesnt work!Anonymous revieweri bought this to connect the oversidian light in my wardrobe (NO DOORS). The lights DONT have motion sensor, so they stay on all the time. I bought Vallhorn to connect to Tradfri so that the lights would be on when motion was detected. TRADFRI does not connect to Vallhorn. Is this TRADFRI smart. Totally unclear.1
Frustrating and still doesn’t workAnonymous reviewerAfter trying two different Remotes and two different drivers I still cannot get it to work and connect I’ve checked everything online and still non no wiser just won’t work1
TRADFRIAnonymous reviewerThe first one did not work. A replacement was sent and it works fine. The product would benefit from better installation instructions.4
Super I'm recommended Anonymous reviewer👌5
Great LED driver for smart ambient lightingAnonymous reviewerI don’t understand the negative reviews! It’s a 10W smart LED driver, You can plug-in up to 10W of LED lighting at 24V. Great little bit of kit for setting up ambient lighting in a bedroom, dining room, or lounge. It would be nice if you could switch the three outputs independently. I bought some IKEA VÅGDAL cables, snipped the end off and soldiered them onto some LED lighting strip from eBay to stick around my IKEA Malm bed frame for dimmable ambient lighting, looks and works fantastically well. I totally recommend this product. When you are buying LED lights from IKEA, look at the wattage on the box for all the lights you’ve purchased, add them all up together, if it comes to less than 10, then this will work just fine, otherwise purchase the 30W version. 5
Good quality Anonymous reviewerWe are satisfied 5
Flashing lightsAnonymous reviewerI should've taken not of other reviews. Small strip of LEDs attached and they flash. Not enough power to run. Switch to the 30w version I have in the kitchen....now works fine. Now have to have another trip to IKEA to change.1
Doesn't workAnonymous reviewerItem not fit for purpose. Ikea staff advised to buy, so I did, but did not advise they are very temperamental - lights not staff - either on or off, sensors oly work if you cove them with your hands. Not sure how to get a refund as installed now.1

Easy and affordable home lighting technology

Rebecca Töreman is facing a group of journalists. They’re visiting the headquarters of IKEA design with hopes of glimpsing innovative products. They bustle to see and touch what Rebecca and her team have spent the last two years creating: the IKEA Smart lighting range.

Rebecca is ready. She knows the reasoning and effort behind every aspect of the range, and she can explain how it will change life at home for the better. But her audience is enthralled with something she forgot could be exciting. “People were amazed with the remote,” says Rebecca. “That you could steer your lamps from wherever you are.” She laughs, pleased to be reminded it can be a delight to control the brightness or tone of a bulb remotely. “When you work with it so closely you get used to the products and the things they can do,” says Rebecca. “So, when you hear people ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ over the design and function of the remote—which I see every day—you feel very proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Improving life at home

Smart lighting is one way we’re using technology to improve life at home. Imagine a cosy weekday family dinner, lights glowing soft and warm. When the meal is done, the table is cleared for homework, which calls for clean, bright light. The goal of Rebecca and the Smart lighting team is to make that transition simple and smooth. Literally, it can be at the touch of a button. “Lighting is such an important part of life at home,” says Rebecca. “You do so many activities every day at home and the light needs to support you in doing all these things.” The range is made up of products that can be combined to create a personalised home lighting solution. It includes LED bulbs, panels and cabinet doors that can all be controlled by a remote. You can dim them and even change the tone of the light, from warm to cold. One remote can control up to 10 Smart lighting products.

Making home tech affordable

Smart lighting technology isn’t new, but so far it hasn’t been so accessible. “It’s been very expensive and complicated,” says Rebecca. “If we can develop Smart lighting that’s easy to understand and affordable, it actually becomes accessible to the many people.” When it comes to cost, Rebecca and her team set a personal goal. “What would we want to pay for a light bulb like this?” asks Rebecca. “We’ve been going back to this idea throughout the whole process.” Working with large volumes has helped lower costs. And, by collaborating with experienced tech suppliers, we’ve been able to find smart ways to save. Those savings are then passed on to the customer.

User friendly and convenient

By offering “kits” that have everything you need to get started, we make it easier to have Smart lighting in your home. And, if you end up wanting to expand your solution, it’s simple. “You can start with the function that suits you and your family’s life, and you can build on that,” says Rebecca. You can look forward to even more Smart lighting products from IKEA in the future. “There will be upgrades and new things customers can do to improve and build on the system,” says Rebecca, who sees a fuss-free future where very little can interrupt a lazy afternoon. “If you sit in your sofa and want to turn on the light, but the light switch is over on the wall, well, obviously with the wireless remote you don’t actually have to get up!”
