Great product but with some initial work of sanding and polishingGunveenIt doesn't come with a prefinished wooden top. So it was an extra trip for us to the store, to buy the wood polish recommended on the product guide and also the additional mess of sanding the top and applying the polish was additional work before you could use the product. Didn't expect this while purchasing.
More information on this would have been much useful. Overall very happy with the look and feel as I use it for my home office desk.5
got smelly, the surface isGanggot smelly, the surface is not flat and smooth4
Solid TableRebeccaLove this table we have 2!!
Nice solid timber table top.5
WarpedCaiseeI got this a few months ago and when I got it home it was level, then I coated it in the IKEA clear coat recommended and by the time it was dry it warped. I've had under weights for days and I'm still not happy. Can't return it because it's coated and they said I can't return it. Huge waste of money.1
Sturdy, perfect for a home deskKC82I bought this item a month ago, along with 2 Alex drawers, and made a home desk setup out of them. I'm very happy with the result. The Gerton is sturdy and thick, and enabled me to mount a dual monitor arm with no trouble whatsoever. Very happy.5
Beautiful to look at plus solidsandi51Used as a modelling table so good5
Lovely colour and solid woodMisskristyGAfter 1 month and several coats of grape seed oil, it looks gorgeous!5
Good looking table top but an effortOne2gonowReally loved the look of this table top. Buyer beware though: Once you unpack the top you realise that you will have to buy the treatment oil that is recommended(under $10). The troubl ethough is that you are instructed to oil it every second day and then every 3rd day for a total of 2 months. Its pretty much not usable for all that time as the top has an oily feel to it for as long as you are treating it..I really would have expected the wood to have been treated and ready for use. Very dissapointing from that perspective. Also, the top finish is not very smooth...I could feel the roughness of the wood and it had 2 small nicks out of the wood as well.4
The table has bowed/saggedgeeceebeeWe loved this table, everything about it actually. That was UNTIL we have just had a week of rain, and the table has developed a significant bow, without having any heavy weight on it, and despite the metal rods that are in the table. We will place it unside down, with the hope it will correct, but then will take it back for a refund. It is a shame, as we loved the table. We purchased it in July 2019.1
Disappointed by the size limitationsLeighMI have a Linamon table top currently which is 2 meters long.It hasn’t worn well with shallow scratches scraping the white away to the inner fibres. I was hoping you to replace this table top with the Gerton as it has a nicer/better quality finish. Unfortunately they don’t offer it in the same dimensions. The closest thing you can do is join 2x 1.5 meter tables together (as pictured in other combos) but this won’t fit my space! Hoping IKEA comes up with some more versatile size options.3
Solid table topLilbabs15We bought this as a caravan table top replacement. We had a friend cut it to size and it's perfect5
Love solid timberT LouiseGreat desk top. Love the look & feel of solid timber so much nicer than veneer5
Not quite what it looks like onlineBluetooth15I ordered this tabletop without seeing it in person, thinking that it was one solid piece of wood. The description calls it solid Beech, and it looks like on my pc. It actually looks like about 25 thin strips of wood glued together. Like a manufactured piece, which is fine, but not what was expected. It also requires sanding, and staining or oiling to protect the finish, so be ready for that. I did mine in a whitewash varnish that looks terrific.3
Value, real woodMarkOzI sanded mine down to get rid of the oil finish, then applied 3 coats of water-based varnish. Now it'll last a long, long time, with no upkeep.5
Nice looking table top with ridiculous finishing rMTofficeI bought the Gerton for an office desktop. The description says it comes oiled and you have to occasionally oil it agin for maintenance. When you get it home though the instructions say 'Apply a thin coat of BEHANDLA wood treatment oil. Leave the oil to penetrate the wood for about 2 hours. Wipe off surplus oil with a cloth or kitchen paper. During the first week of use the table top should be treated every second day and after that every third day until the surface is saturated (after about 2 months).' When are you meant to use it if you're oiling it and leaving it clear of everything for two hours every couple of days? Customer service staff agreed with me that oiling every second or third day for three months was ridiculous. Also, I purchased the Lerberg trestles to use with it as shown in the photos for the Gerton tabletop. While these trestles may look good and be cost-effective there is one giant flaw – they can't be attached to any table top. That's right, no fixings available. In other words, you simply balance the table top on top of the Lerberg trestle. If anyone leans on it or pushes it or sits on it ... disaster. There goes your expensive computer or anything else on top of it, let alone injuries to the people around it. I find it strange that Ikea insists on fixing bookcases and cupboards to the wall but then allows a table top to not be fixed in any way to these trestle legs. Customer support staff agreed with me that this is extremely dangerous but the website still has no warnings about it. Don't buy Ikea trestles! I had to return both the table top and the trestles -- very annoying and time consuming.2
Perfect Desk TopSarahM11We wanted a natural desktop, and this one is perfect. It is solid, beautiful and fits two people working side by side. Perfect for our small home.5
Bad smellDaveKI loved the look of the blond tabletop both in store and at home, but the beeswax application is both smelly and sticky, so now I regret buying this, but there were no other good looking blond tops to choose from. I wouldn’t use the Ikea beeswax again.2
