FRAKTA. Bringing your things home safely for 30 years.
We always knew it was a piece of art. Now on display in the Groninger Museum.
We were of course convinced of this masterpiece for some time, but now the blue FRAKTA bag is also officially a museum piece. The bag became world famous after Van Gogh's stolen painting the Lentetuin was returned in it. Now the Lentetuin can be admired again in the Groninger Museum - with the blue bag at his side, of course.
That is why we are organising various fun activities, competitions and more.

The story of the iconic FRAKTA bag
From day one, a permanent team of Swedish designers designs all IKEA products. Swedish brother and sister Knut and Marianne Hagberg joined the IKEA design team in 1979 and continued to work at the store for 41 years. In total, they designed more than 2.100 products together – no IKEA designer could match them. Their most famous design is the blue FRAKTA bag.
The origin of the FRAKTA bag dates back to the 80s?
We found someone at the office who weighed about 50 kilos and asked them to stand in the bag, Lars Göran remembers. I took one handle and Ingvar took the other. We lifted the bag up, and it didn’t break!”
Sten LundénFormer assistent to IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad, 1986
More than a bag
Nowadays, most people have one or more of these blue classics, and they are used in all kinds of different ways. It was originally made to provide IKEA customers with a reliable bag to carry their new stuff home in. Since then, millions of people have come up with imaginative ways to use FRAKTA. Apple pickers and recycling collectors, parents with young children, football coaches – the list is endless. And it can carry heavy loads – FRAKTA does after all mean ‘to freight’ in Swedish.
