How to buy the perfect fridge

When choosing a fridge or freezer that best suits your needs, you need to bear a few things in mind:

1. Size

We offer different sizes and capacities, which will depend on the amount of food you tend to store and the number of people in your family.

2. Accessories

Is there an accessory or specific feature you need to make storing and organising food easier? We offer many interior accessories.

3. Style

What style do you like and best suits your kitchen? You can choose a free-standing appliance to add a touch of design to your kitchen, or a built-in appliance that is perfectly hidden away.

Types of fridges and freezers

Once you know what size you need and what style best fits your kitchen, you can choose from the following types of fridges

Free-standing fridges

If you want your fridge/freezer to play a leading role in your kitchen, choose a free-standing one. They offer much larger capacities than built-in fridges and take up the same amount of space.

Built-in fridges

If you don't want to see your appliances, hide your fridge behind a cupboard door.

Your fridge's features

Our fridges and freezers have a range of extra features that'll make your life easier. These extras are what make top-of-the-range refrigerators stand out from other more standard fridges.

The fan maintains a constant temperature throughout the entire space, so you can put all your food and drinks wherever it suits you best.

With the No Frost function, you'll never have to scrape away ice. Your fridge automatically regulates moisture levels to prevent ice and frost from forming on your food.

The touch control panel makes it easier for you to choose the most suitable temperature for every occasion (chilling desserts, freezing fresh vegetables, going on holiday etc.).

You'll never have to clean off finger marks. The anti-fingerprint finish ensures the surface stays clean for longer.

With holiday mode, you can leave your fridge closed and empty while you are on holiday without any foul smells forming.

The fast cooling function lets you rapidly cool fresh foods and drinks; perfect for when you do a big shop.

Lower the temperature quickly with the fast freeze function and preserve the freshness and nutrients of your food.

You'll never break a glass bottle in the freezer again. With the bottle chilling mode, an alarm will sound when the right chilling time has elapsed.

What does the energy label mean on fridges?

Energy rating labels show the energy consumption of each appliance. The scale ranges from A to G and informs consumers about the consumption of a particular appliance. The A+, A++ and A+++ scales were developed to provide consumers with increasingly efficient appliances with better performance. Therefore, the A+++ category means maximum efficiency with minimum power consumption. Although fridges with greater energy efficiency may be more expensive, in the end, you'll save money, as an A+++ fridge, for example, can consume up to 75% less energy than other types of fridges.

At IKEA, all our fridges and freezers have an energy rating of A+ to A+++, so you save energy.

Did you know that with a built-in fan, you can keep food fresh for longer? The fan ensures cold air circulates evenly and maintains a constant temperature throughout the entire refrigerator. So you can put your food and drinks wherever it suits you best.

Did you know that thawing and scraping away ice is history? The No Frost feature automatically regulates moisture levels and prevents ice and frost from forming.
