Nice doors, but do not fit properly as a closed in cabinet.DeniseThis does not work on The Billy Bookcase 804.927.82 for top and bottom parts as shown in some pictures to have a closed in cabinet. Can only be used for bottom section. It is literally 1/8 of an inch too big. We tried re-adjusting top and bottom doors but had to shave off part of the bottom of the top doors to have them fit. 3
SuggestingYoungI bought it for my vinyl records and overall happy with the build quality and functioning but feel one disappointing aspect. It would be more great if the center divider is more upper or lower then I could make five shelves for completely suitable for vinyl records( typically 12~13 feet height). It has only four and two small areas which could not store vinyl records.4

Not as good as the originalPamI purchased the "new" version of the narrow Billy bookcase & just finished assembling it. The quality is not as good as the original; the vinyl wrapping on the edges of the shelves shows along the top edges & cheapens the look compared to the original version. It is possible the vinyl edges will loosen when books are added/removed to the shelves. Would've been easier to engineer the wrapping to end on the underside of the shelves. Of course, I was adding this unit to several other bookcases of the previous version and have had to place near a corner so the substandard quality is less obvious. Wish I'd had the chance to see it in store before I ordered; would've used something else. Don't know why Ikea chose to cheapen the quality & appearance of these units - I think function, appearance & durability is still important to consumers and will definitely view "new" products in person before buying again.2

Very poor quality post-redesignDavidI purchased several Billy bookcases last year in white. This month, I purchased several more of the same model, following the redesign. The quality has decreased substantially. The new stickers they use instead of veneer peel and damage very easily, and just look cheap. The seams are visible and flaky. Mine were damaged out of the box. The quality really doesn't seem any better than some cheap thing you'd buy from Target or Walmart. I really would not recommend these bookcases anymore. Billy use to be a solid, dependable choice (I've purchased many over many years) but the current design is trash.1
