would not buy againRachelI know Ikea likes to encourage things to be wall mounted, however I never had a bookcase with such an insecure base that it cannot stand on its own. Once the doors were added it was obvious it was going to topple forward. I really wish the bookcase had a solid foundation on 4 sides. Yes, I can return it, but it weighs a lot and the hinges took forever to assemble. So I wall mounted it and am hoping for the best. Will not buy another and telling others. Also, chipping at edges already.2
So disappointingEmilyThis cabinet is a huge disappointment. It is extremely wobbly and flimsy. I absolutely would not spend $200 on this if I were you.1
great looking, bad storingCalvinOkay, Ive been an Ikea person for as long as I can remember. Their designs are streamlined and look great. I've convinced my wife to get some billy bookcases for storage along an empty wall. After much convincing and DR vibg back and forth to our closest Ikea, three hours away, after several months I finally had assembled everything and it filled the space perfectly. The lingering problem is storage space, something I've noticed for every Ikea product. Who cares if it looks great if it's disfunctional? The shelves couldn't fit a rotisserie chicken. And if you're thinking of glass or solid door panels, even after the no space disappointment review, go no glass. The glass can't be replaced without buying or replacing from new doors. And you better have an outstanding assortment of things to show off or it will look like the only reading you do are from YouTube comments and you eat crayons. Space is the necessity imo of cases. Book case, space case, case a dilla, you need it & Bill dont.2
It lasted for less than 3months.EunhyeThe panel at the back is extremely thin and it ended up breaking when I moved a bit :(1
Practical and BeautifulMadeleineWe have bought four of these and they are absolutely attractive. Several of our friends have been captured and have decided to go to IKEA and buy the same book cases.5
Creative solution!DougWe used this in our kitchen to create a pantry in a very small apartment. The Hallbar bins were great to fit inside on the bottom and gave us hidden trash and recycling as well5
The Billy/Oxberg is PerfectMelissaJust the right design and size for the space you have. 5
Love more than I thought I wouldRosemaryI put these shelves together by myself and it was surprisingly easy. I only dropped a couple f-bombs in the process. They provide a ton of storage in a wide hallway. Games, puzzles, electronics below; elegant vintage glassware above. Added the brass knobs because the knobs in the kit were awful. Will add strip lights to brighten shelves behind the glass. I’ve received many compliments on how nice the units look. Highly recommend.5
Love the Billy Oxberg .PemaLove the Billy Oxberg and looks beautiful in my dinning room.5
Quick and easy build! ChristianEasy build, great price!! 5
Billy Bookcase tips easilyJulieVery flimsy and light, so it tips easily. Yes, I know you anchor it to the wall. Needs to have a higher cutout at back for taller baseboards.2
Upgrade of our 2003 Billy book casesAnonymous reviewerWe always liked the Billy bookcases, we recently replaced our Billy book cases we bought in Germany in 2003 only because we wanted doors and the US did not sell the gray slate color. So we went for the Billy with the Oxberg doors half panel/ glass brown walnut. We right away bought four and added a fifth later. We wanted the multiple book cases with the mobility to move. The look, ease of assembly and durability made us buy these. 5
Nice looking and well made bookcase for the priceCharltonI purchased 5 of these between a small office and a game room. The combo of the Billy book case with the Oxberg glass doors is a great combo. They are very nice looking and the build quality (making it very easy to build) is very good. I highly recommend these for great book cases at this price point.5
Perfect for my bar glasswareKellyannwas looking for something that would be able to house my glassware and be storage at the same time, this works perfectly for both. 5
Great shelf Anonymous reviewerEasy to assemble. Looks so good. 5
Coloration not as advertised. Low quality as well.GraceThe brown walnut is significantly darker than the picture, which ruins the room’s aesthetic. Also, the holes for the shelves don’t line up. We’d return but shipping costs are expensive. Very disappointing.1
Oak EffectFlynnOrdered without knowing how the oak would look in person. It is a beautiful light driftwood color. It was very easy to put together. 5
