Wonderful Bookcase / Couple SuggestionsJacobI love the well thought out design and structural integrity of this bookcase. Looks and feels more expensive than it is. Especially love the slide in backing affixed with locking connectors - sure beats the ones that require you to nail in the cardboard, which often can result in splitting the wood if not centered.
Only issues I had was that my baseboard is taller than standard, therefore the precut relief wasn't tall enough and my shelf couldn't rest flat against the wall, and they are more tipsy than I thought they'd be. Would be nice if base board relief arch was made larger to accommodate more modern base boards.
Also, I hate the idea of drilling screws into the finished wood on top for the anti-tip brackets. Would be nice design change to swap top back/wall side screw in locks for sideboards to new hardware that had a built in threaded peg on top so that L-bracket could go over it and be affixed with acorn-style or similar nut. Would require a slightly longer L bracket.

Book case with glass doorsDebbieSo first of all this is the firat item i purchase from Ikea. It was so confusing to me when we went to the store. Every piece is sold separately. We finally figured out what i needed and when we got home my son put it together for me. It was not hard to put together. The only issue we had was one of the doors does not close all the way. We followed the instruction. Doors do not state top and bottom. Both sides have the same amount of holes which we understood as we can use either side. Ill just buy some magnets i guess to help close it. Hopefully that works. Anyways over all I love the book case. I bought it to store my stanleys! 😊😊 I added some lights i had laying around and I think it looks great. 😊
Nice solid bookcaseGregThis is a nice bookcase of solid construction. Not too difficult to assemble. I like having the glass doors which limit the dust inside. A good buy for the money.
We love these bookcasesPamWe purchased 2 bookcases for our craft/guest room. They are perfect and make the room look nice.
Nice size but it tips overJohnThis all particle board which should be of no surprise for anyone buying it. The quality of the doors is actually too bad. While they were boxed, I stood them up and the wind blew them down. They crashed on the concrete with no damage. On my carpeted floor, if I open both doors the thing tips over. The glass doors are very heavy. It was easy to but together. The door hinges are decent. There are 3 per door and have some adjustability. It probably passed safety standards because it comes with hardware to anchor the bookcase to the wall. On most products I throw them in the garbage. But they are essential for this for this product. When you read the instructions it shows safety drawings of a kid trying to climb it as the safety issue for anchoring it but this is not the most obvious reason.
Unclear Instructions Caused Irreversible DamageKennethThe instruction manual does not clearly state that the BILLY door has a top and bottom orientation. I assumed the door could be installed either way and only chose the left/right opening direction.
Because the manual was unclear, I installed the door upside down and drilled the handle hole in the wrong position. Later I found out the door actually has a fixed top and bottom, so even if I reinstall it correctly, there is now an irreversible hole that cannot be repaired or hidden.
This is a design detail that should be clearly highlighted in the instructions. A small note or warning could have prevented permanent damage. Very frustrating experience.

Great idea....in theory KellyI have purchased many Billy bookcases over the years and love them. I saw this version with the glass doors and thought it would be perfect for my small travel souvenirs. Yes and no. Sadly the doors are so heavy the bookcase can NOT support the weight. It immediately tips over when trying to open a door. Do not get these unless you are willing to anchor the entire case to the wall. This should definitely be noted in the description. If we would have known that we would not have purchased it.
Very beautiful and makes a statementRachellThese bookcases are beautiful. I have the dark/black bookcases with glass doors and they are stunning. I use them for my home library and they each hold about 200 books comfortably. I also purchased some IKEA bookcase lights that sit on top and angle down for night time use. These are very easy and fast to put together and sit solidly on my wood floors. The notches in the bottom back side allow room for the baseboards to fit snugly against the back of the bookcase and the wall. I will be purchasing more in the future as my book collection grows. A friend also has these same bookcases in the blue color and they are stunning.
Looks Great, Needs Better InstructionsBenThe bookshelf looks great and is fairly easy to assemble, however the doors look symmetrical for assembly but are not. The instructions don't offer anything in terms of orientation for the doors further leading to the misunderstanding that they're symmetrical. If you don't find the correct orientation the first time, you'll end up with an ugly hole where the knob is meant to go. This is incredibly frustrating.
Looks beautifulAngelaI got two of these bookcases w the glass doors in white. A few things to note - the white is not a true paper white color. It is a warmer white and also works w an ivory color scheme. It is a beautiful color but not crisp white. I also decided to cover the backing of the shelving w peel and stick wallpaper. It looks really good but most peel and stick won't actually lift up to reposition because of the paper like texture of the backer. Because the unit is narrow (which I wanted) and has a slight cut out at the base on the back to account for the trim on your walls, the shelving MUST be attached to the wall w the safety bracket at the top or else it will tip over. The shelves are beautiful and I get many compliments on them but those are a few helpful things to know.

Lovely and practical - using them throughout the houseMichaelI love these shelves -- I wish IKEA would go back to more whole wood products -- I have file cabinets that are over 35 years old and still going strong. The fiber board backs on newer products can't take too many moves to new locations - which we have done.

Was not expecting it to be this greatStephanieEasy to assemble. Structure is sturdy and seems to be built to last. Glass doors were surprisingly easy to install. If other reviews say they had a hard time installing it, they probably didn't loosen the screw a bit first as the instructions state. Having a second person helping you will also make it easier to install. Something I didn't expect overall: The space between shelves will not be consistent. Some shelves will be taller than others.
