Group IKEA's values
Elena López, head of Diversity, explains how in IKEA equality is a reality and how on International Women’s Day we want to continue our journey towards a more egalitarian world and become an example for our customers, suppliers and society at large.
Equality is a Human Right and the values of the IKEA Group corroborate this
Happy International Women’s Day: It is already the 8th of March! A day on which we defend women’s role in society, continuing along our journey towards a more egalitarian world where men and women have the same opportunities. And at IKEA we are on our way.
Equality cannot be gained in one day, it is a timeless concept , which must form part of our thoughts 365 days a year. It is a Human Right and our values corroborate this.
It’s interesting. To see how people outside our company are surprised when we tell them that 51.6% of our managerial roles are taken up by women. Or that 13 women, both managers and deputy managers, are at the helm of our 17 stores. This is why we want to tell the world on a day such as this and become a source of inspiration and an example for other companies.
Other data… since 2010 the IKEA team has been joined by 38 women while pregnant. And 51 women have been promoted during pregnancy or after returning to work from maternity leave. At IKEA, career and motherhood are not incompatible!
Moreover, there is a concept that we defend and highlight: shared responsibility. 28 fathers have benefited from reduced working hours to take care of their children since 2010. Another 52 have enjoyed paternity leave to look after their kids since 2010. And we think that this is simply wonderful.
At IKEA we promote equal opportunities day to day and encourage the people working here to be themselves, as their singularity makes our company a better place.
Working better with equality.
