Fits BILLY bookcase 80 cm wide and 28 cm deep.

The shelf does not fit bookcases purchased in the spring of 2014 or earlier.

Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

Handle with care! A damaged edge or scratched surface can cause the glass to suddenly crack or break. Avoid bumps from the side - this is where the glass is most vulnerable.

Not what it once wasStephenSadly Billy is not what he once was, and the additional shelves you purchase today will not fit in properly with original Billy’s or even ones from a decade ago. The birch finish is not the same colour as of old, and doesn’t even have the same fixings.2

Perfect for my needsSueI bought the Billy slim bookcase with glass doors so that I could display my Wedgewood collection. The cupboard was easy to erect and install attaching it to the wall. I took a while deciding whether this would be suitable for my needs, and I visited the instore showroom to have a discussion with an IKEA advisor/salesperson. I am very happy with the advice I had, that included a suggestion to get it delivered as it was too long to fit into a car or ute. 5

Good, butHeatherThe shelf itself is fine, but I bought an extra glass shelf for each of the 3 Billy bookshelves with doors, after I'd had someone come in and assemble them. Being grey metallic colour, no matching shelf so went with glass. However won't go in with the fixings they provide without removing the doors which I'm not prepared to do, so had to order special 3mm shelf pins to rest shelves on as not the usual 5mm available at Bunnings. Works, but just hope it's secure enough. Recommend, with provisos.4

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
