Shorter than advertised!!!!LindsayThe glass shelf is 75.5cm by 26cm, it may not be much but 5mm difference in length does not allow it to sit in the Billy bookcase without modifying and using different sized hole pegs that this shelf sits on

Not what it once wasStephenSadly Billy is not what he once was, and the additional shelves you purchase today will not fit in properly with original Billy’s or even ones from a decade ago. The birch finish is not the same colour as of old, and doesn’t even have the same fixings.

Perfect for my needsSueI bought the Billy slim bookcase with glass doors so that I could display my Wedgewood collection. The cupboard was easy to erect and install attaching it to the wall. I took a while deciding whether this would be suitable for my needs, and I visited the instore showroom to have a discussion with an IKEA advisor/salesperson. I am very happy with the advice I had, that included a suggestion to get it delivered as it was too long to fit into a car or ute.

The Billy/Oxford combination with glass shelves have made a perfect doorway block from my previously walkthrough kitchen. The old dining room is now a study. Glass looks great and thinner than the supplied timber shelves

What is glass?
Glass is mainly made of sand, soda and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
