What causes white doors from IKEA to discolor?

Woodwork finished with a white or light turpentine-based paint (also called Alkyd paint) will yellow to a greater or lesser extent indoors in places where there is little or no daylight. This has to do with the composition of the paint.

In a light environment this takes place less quickly than in dark rooms, which is why this is called 'dark yellowing'. New white or ecru doors combined with yellowed doors are therefore whiter in color. In time, these new doors will also discolor.
