What can I do to make the doors of my PAX wardrobe fit better?

To ensure all parts of a wardrobe fit together properly, it is important to follow the assembly instructions precisely. We are happy to provide you with some tips.

Ensure the wardrobe is level
To make sure all frames of your wardrobe fit together, it is important to follow the assembly instructions precisely. Ensure the wardrobe is level, both horizontally (on the floor) and vertically (up along the side of the wardrobe).

You can level the PAX frames using the adjustable feet. If that doesn't work, a small wedge (not included) can help straighten the wardrobe.

Once the wardrobe is completely level and all parts fit together nicely, you can adjust the hinges in multiple directions. You’ll find instructions for this in the assembly guide for the hinges. This guide is also available on the product pages at IKEA.com, under the 'Product Information' tab, then click on 'Assembly & Documents'.

Gap with hinged doors
A gap between the wardrobe and the door can be up to a centimetre wide if the hinge is placed incorrectly. Unscrew the hinge from the side panel and rotate it 180 degrees so the thick screw is at the back of the hinge. You’ll find instructions for mounting the hinges on the packaging and on our website (click on the correct hinge set and see 'product information').

Gap with sliding doors
Do you have a PAX wardrobe with sliding doors and notice a gap between the doors and the wardrobe frame? There can be several reasons for this.

If the gap is large (big enough to fit your hand through), your sliding doors are probably the wrong way around: the left door is on the right, and the right door is on the left. During assembly, you decide which door goes on which side by installing sealing strips on the outer sides of the wardrobe. The side where the front door goes gets a wider sealing strip than the side of the back door. That’s because the distance between the front door and the wardrobe is greater. If you switch the doors after installing the sealing strips, you’ll end up with a large gap between the front door and the wardrobe. Slide the doors back to their correct position to fix this.

Is the gap smaller, and were your sliding doors bought between 2022–2024? Then an extra gasket and closing brush might be missing – these are now standard. Ask in one of our stores about the options to receive these, or contact us.
