What about chemicals used in textile production?
Regarding chemicals used in textile production, we think that our customers should be able to trust that products from IKEA are safe for your health.
Therefore, IKEA follows the restrictions of the European legislation (REACH). In some cases, our guidelines are even stricter.
To make sure no chemicals remain in the textile, the textile is rinsed. To prevent chemicals from harming the environment, we purify the rinsing water.
There are also restrictions for the use of pesticides. These restrictions have been made by the “Better Cotton Initiative”; an organisation IKEA has worked with since the beginning. To check if these restrictions are met, random samples are used. Read more about the “Better Cotton Initiative”.
