Are there any tips and instructions for maintaining a (custom) worktop?
In the user manual that you receive with a custom worktop you will find various tips and instructions to keep your worktop beautiful for as long as possible. Failure to follow these instructions can damage your worktop.
General tips and regulations
- Use ordinary dish soap, soap or water for daily cleaning. Never use chemicals to clean the worktop.
- Never place hot pans directly on the worktop, but on a heat-insulating mat. The same goes for toasters, coffee makers, kettles or other kitchen appliances that emit heat at the bottom.
- Always use a cutting board. Never cut with a knife directly on the worktop. Never pull a product with a rough / sharp surface over the worktop, as this can cause scratches.
- At the bottom of the worktop is a protective layer that protects the worktop against moisture from the dishwasher, washing machine and the oven. Nevertheless, we recommend to place the FENSJÖ diffusion barrier at the bottom of the worktop, near the dishwasher.
Laminate
- Laminate worktops are easy to maintain and are heat and scratch resistant. It is important that the worktop is sufficiently maintained to prevent damage.
- Laminate is resistant to common household chemicals, such as dish soap. Do not use descaling agent, oven cleaner, bleach or scouring agents, or cleaning agents containing chlorine, ammonia, alcohol and acetone for maintenance. These agents must be removed immediately in the event of spillage.
Cleaning can be done with a damp cloth and possibly some cleaning agent. Do not use steel wool, scouring pads, abrasives, etc., as this may damage the surface. Always dry the worktop with a dry cloth after use or cleaning.
- Laminate worktops cannot be used in damp areas.
Solid wood or wood veneer
- A wood veneer worktop has a warm, natural look: the top layer of these worktops is made of real wood! The worktops are pretreated with an oil layer so that you can use the worktop immediately after installation. You do have to treat the worktop with oil again when you see that the surface is starting to become dry and light in color.
To do this, sand the blade with a light sandpaper, and use, for example, TRIXIG wood oil to treat the worktop. Areas where the worktop can dry out, such as around the sink and hob, should be treated more often.
Composite (quarts, stone or glass)
- These custom worktops are made from a composite (a mixture of the base material with a resin). The surface of a composite worktop is, in contrast to a solid (natural) stone worktop, pore-free and flat. Therfore it does not need to be impregnated: the surface is stain resistant.
- You can remove stubborn stains with a solution of vinegar in lukewarm water. Clean the surface with a sponge. Do not use the coarse side of the sponge (or steel wool, scouring pads, abrasive, etc.) as it can damage the glossy surface of the worktop. Wipe the worktop with a dry cloth.
