How does icing or condensation happen in my freezer or refrigerator?
Ice formation and condensation can occur in any freezer or refrigerator, even if they have a so-called NO FROST function. Here's a number of tips to prevent and solve ice formation if it does occur.
IKEA sells various refrigerators and freezers, with part of the range having a so-called NO FROST function. This means that when used correctly, no or very little ice will form in the device.
Regular defrosting of the device is therefore officially not required. However, due to a lot of condensation in the device, more ice can form than expected. Follow the user manual and maintenance instruction to prevent ice build-up. Please note the following points:
- Leave the door open for as short a time as possible.
- Do not place hot or lukewarm products directly in the freezer. First put these products in the refrigerator for a few hours so that the temperature of the product is lower than room temperature. Then place it in the freezer.
- Check the maximum amount of products that can be frozen at the same time. This quantity is indicated on the rating plate in the device or in the user manual.
- Do not fill the device completely. Make sure there is sufficient ventilation space so that air can circulate through the appliance. This ensures that any NO FROST function in the device works correctly.
- Use the fast freeze function if you place products that have already defrosted in the freezer.
- It is normal for a slight ice build-up to be visible on the back wall of a refrigerator. Warm air from the products in the refrigerator condenses against the cold rear wall and small ice drops can form as a result. Therefore, do not place products against the back wall, but keep them a few centimeters away.
- Keep the opening at the back of the cooler on the bottom of a cooler open so condensation can escape and evaporate.
How do I remove the ice build-up?
Has there been excessive ice build-up? Then let the device defrost and clean it thoroughly during defrosting. Follow the tips above when you have defrosted and cleaned the device.
