Do I need the receipt to make a return, and how are refunds processed?

Yes, the receipt or proof of purchase is required for returns, and refunds will be made based on the condition of the item (opened/assembled or in its original packaging).

To return a product to IKEA, you must present the original receipt or a valid proof of purchase. This document allows us to verify the date of purchase (within 365 days) and the payment method used. Without it, we cannot process the return.
Your IKEA receipt clearly indicates the method of purchase (including the last 4 digits of the card used for the purchase). IKEA can only accept returns if the original card is presented. If you purchase an item during a promotional period, the refund will be calculated based on the price paid (minus the value of the promotion).
If you want to give a gift to someone special, you can request a gift receipt at the time of purchase in store. This document will serve as proof of purchase in case of a return. Please note that this option is not available for online purchases.
You can use the same receipt to return one or more items, even at different times. Remember that each return must correspond to a specific purchase, and the receipt must be associated with that transaction.

What if I don't have the receipt?
You can retrieve it if you used IKEA Family or if you provide certain information.
  • If you used your IKEA Family card, you can access your receipts from your profile on the IKEA website (log in), in the My purchases / Show receipt section, where you can download or print your receipts.
  • If you did not do so, IKEA can help you retrieve your receipt if you provide:
    • Date of purchase.
    • Store where you made the purchase.
    • Exact amount.
    • The last 4 digits of the card used (please note that card payments made through a digital wallet may have different last four digits than the physical card).

If you placed an order online or with the distance selling team, you will receive the invoice by email. You can also access it from the Track and manage your order link in the View Invoice section. In store, you can request it at the checkout or after purchase at the Customer Service desk in our stores or via the web form.
How is the refund made?
It depends on the condition of the product and the amount.
  • If the product has not been unpacked, the refund will be made using the same payment method used for the purchase.
  • If the product has been opened or assembled, the refund will be made to an IKEA gift card.
  • If the refund amount exceeds €999.99, it will be refunded using the same payment method, even if the product has been opened.
  • When will I receive my refund?
  • The refund will be made once we have verified that the items are in good condition.
  • General timeframe: Regardless of the return method, the refund will be made within 7 business days.
  • If home pickup is required, the timeframe begins from the moment the merchandise is picked up.
  • If you returned the items via Correos, the 7-business-day period begins once the goods arrive at our IKEA store.

Please note that in some cases, your bank may take longer to reflect the refund amount in your account.
If you have not received your refund after 7 business days, write “talk to an agent” in the chat or call 900.400.922 so that our Customer Service team can help you.
