How can I measure my kitchen?

When it comes to kitchen, every millimeter counts. You need to be sure of your whole space, including windows, doors, radiators or any other obstruction. If you want to take the measurements by yourself, please follow our measurement instructions. If you want to use our measuring service, please book a planning appointment with our kitchen specialists in store or online.

You can decide if you prefer to take the measurements by yourself or have it professionally done with our kitchen measure service, in combination with a planning appointment, in a store or online. With this service you get expertise, accuracy and convenience. In this appointment, the technician will take photos of your space, collect and verify all measurements and details. They will also deliver all the measurements to IKEA directly.
If you prefer to do the measurements by yourself, here are some useful tips:
1. Preparation:
Secure that your kitchen is "measure-ready", that means that no major work still remains to be done, especially in new constructions. Finalise the utility positions. Plumbing and electrical connections must be in their final positions.
2. Measurements:
If you're not used to measure a kitchen, we advise you to watch our kitchen measurement video first. You can also print our kitchen pdf guide (not available in English). Here a short summary of what you find in the guide and the video:
  • room: measure width, wall length, ceiling height. Write all the needed connections (electricity, water, vents). Also write any obstacle (radiator, pole, column, chimney)
  • windows: measure their dimension, distance from floor to bottom and from top to ceiling. Think also about the direction in which the windows open and how you can reach its handle.
  • doors: measure their dimension including the frame, the door thickness, distance from top to ceiling. Think also about the direction in which the doors open.
  • electrical outlets and water connections: note the distance from floor and walls to outlet or connection. Write also down the type of electrical outlet (amperage and amount of connectable appliances).
  • ceiling: verify if the ceiling is perfectly parallel to the floor or if it is sloping.
3. Planification:
You can start getting inspiration on our website or in our stores.
Once you have a clearer idea about your wishes and your budget, you can start planning with our online kitchen planners. Whether you need it at that stage or later, we advise you to book a kitchen planning appointment with our specialists to secure your planification. You can decide to have it in a store or online at home.
