Achieving a high end kitchen look on a budgetAndrewAs a cabinetmaker originally I have built and installed plenty of kitchens. Although leaving the trade many years ago I still continued to use my acquired skills part time renovating investment properties which involved designing, rebuilding and installing new kitchens. I have found that it is much more efficient for me in many cases to use Ikea products than manufacture them myself. Having a full time career in another field restricted the time I had available for renovation work so using Ikea products was a viable solution. I still made custom cabinetry but I incorporated Ikea drawers and doors and integrated Ikea base units and tall cabinets as required. However it was not only the time factor that influenced my preferences. I have found that Ikea produce items that are consistent in sizing, finish and quality so they can be deepened upon when designing and i stalling a kitchen. This combined with the fact that Ikea guarantees the components for 25 years makes their products very desirable co pared to many other kit kitchen component manufacturers and even when comparing bespoke kitchen suppliers. We have just finished our latest kitchen for a property we have moved into and being of a Hampton style the Bodbyn range of drawers doors and panels is perfect. I personally could not manufacture the same style and finish without going to a lot of effort and even then could not guarantee such a quality and consistent finish. My wife and I made many trips to Ikea to compare styles colours and finishes and gain specific information from the helpful staff. And to purchase drawer fronts and doors and to take advantage of Ikea's easy return system when we had changes of mind on sizing etc. Our new kitchen really looks the part and with its 53 drawers functions brilliantly. There is a lot of customised cabinetry involved but its largely an Ikea kitchen with a very high quality Bodbyn off white and gray finish. I am amused when people think that Ikea kitchens result in a cheap look and lower quality. When they look at ours they cannot believe that it is Ikea or how economical it was - all with a 25 year guarantee. Something that NO other kitchen manufacturer would do.5

What is fibreboard?

Fibreboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fibreboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.
