Range news29 January 2024
IKEA Australia helps you get started in your plant-journey with the new DAKSJUS collection, with recent insights showing how elevating your green space has a positive benefit to your wellbeing.

On sale at IKEA Australia from 1 February, the new, limited-edition DAKSJUS collection can help elevate your green space, whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or someone itching to get started with a green thumb. Ranging from pot plants, vertical plant stands, vases, hanging planters, and accessories like an apron, potting mat and gloves, there’s no better time to get into your plant journey to start 2024.

The DAKSJUS collection includes a vertical plant stand ($79) and hanging planter ($25) to help maximize your space, creating a green oasis which allows plants to be displayed more easily within your home; stylish bamboo stand ($99) which allows for the versatility of both hanging and placing your plants which is great for decorating and creating a lush ‘green wall’; self-watering terracotta ($35), green pots ($19), and glass watering inserts ($15) for easy care allowing plants to thrive when you’re away.

Elevating your green space is also connected to  positive wellbeing, according to insights from the most recent global IKEA Life at Home research (YouGov, 2023). One third of respondents said having access to a private garden or balcony has increased in importance to them, especially in densely populated and heavily urbanised areas. 14% of respondents said having fresh air or an air purifier was a key factor contributing to having a comfortable home. The report also shows that there is a positive correlation between nurturing and caring for greenery, animals and prized possessions, and the effect this has on happiness and wellbeing, with 32% wanting to spend more time doing hobbies and personal projects - wanting their ideal home to be a space for downtime, space for nature, and space for doing the things they love.

Last year, the IKEA Life at Home report uncovered the surprising stat that 19% of Aussies regularly talk to their plants at home. To help this plant chat, IKEA Australia released the ‘Plantitudes booklet’, a free compostable Swedish phrasebook design to help plants thrive, available on the IKEA website. The book includes 18 pages of foliage-loving Swedish phrases that can be spoken to plants to inspire growth – with studies showing vibrations from speech can have a positive impact on plant health. Phrases include: Please don’t die (Snälla, håll dig vid liv lite till); you look thirsty, would you like a drink? (Du ser törstig ut, vill du ha lite vatten?); I be-leaf in you (Jag tror på dig).

With products ranging between $3 to $99, customers can now get their green thumbs on the DAKSJUS collection, available from February 1, 2024.

Customers can shop the new DAKSJUS range instore, online or via the IKEA app. They can also speak to an IKEA expert by booking a planning appointment, via phone, or through online chat to place their order.

*Top tips from IKEA to help elevate your green space:

  • Lift your plants off the ground by using a shelving unit or plant stand. Adding a plant stand will create different levels to your green space, creating a lush vertical “green wall “.
  • To figure out what plants will work in your space, consider your sunlight. Our plant labels show whether a plant needs shade, indirect light or full sun. Daylight can be a very limited resource in a home. Where you do have it, build vertical and place your plants on a high shelf.
  • Ground your green space by defining an indoor/outdoor space to entertain or relax using green plants, which will support to create a seamless transition from one space to another, whether you’re inside or outside your home. You can do this placing an outdoor rug or wooden floor decking/artificial grass flooring or creating a “plant corner”.
  • If you’re unsure how often to water plants, this self-watering plant pot can help. The insert keeps the soil nice and moist, so your plants can thrive even if you can’t water them regularly.
