IKEA releases reimagined 'Home Sweet Home' sign as a symbol of pride and acceptance for IDAHOTB Day

Corporate news11 May 2022
IKEA Australia continues to push for inclusivity this IDAHOTB Day so customers and co-workers can feel at home wherever they are.

IKEA Australia wants to help build a world where people of all sexual orientations and gender identities can feel at home, wherever they are. This International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB), 17 May, IKEA Australia is once again calling on its customers and co-workers to show their support to become stronger allies for the LGBT+ community.

To celebrate this IDAHOTB Day, the iconic ‘Home Sweet Home’ sign has been redesigned by IKEA and turned into ‘Home Pride Home’ using colours from the Progress Flag to become a symbol of pride.

Australians can show their alliance ahead of IDAHOTB Day by downloading their own Home Pride Home cross-stitch pattern, or printable sticker from IKEA.com.au/HomePrideHome. Also, the GIF can be found and shared on Instagram Stories along with #HomePrideHome.

For a limited time in Sydney and Melbourne stores, customers can have the Home Pride Home symbol printed onto cushion covers, pillowcases and tea towels, to proudly display in their home to show support for the LGBT+ community. In-store printing is available ahead of IDAHOTB Day on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 May at IKEA Tempe and Richmond from 11am – 3pm.

Josh Rozairo (he/him/his), Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Leader for IKEA Australia says, “We are a purpose-led company, and want to drive positive change in society. We support our LGBT+ co-workers’ and customers’ right to be themselves and feel included at IKEA, at home, or out in the world.”

“LGBT+ inclusion isn’t something which exists on one specific day at IKEA Australia. Every day we are constantly building on meaningful initiatives for our co-workers and customers, and we see IDAHOTB Day as a time to come together, recognise and celebrate. For our customers, this can be seen at multiple points throughout our stores, even from the moment they enter the carpark.”

For customers, IKEA Australia has recently adopted inclusive family car park signage to represent a more diverse picture of Australian families. Gender-neutral bathrooms can be found in all stores to make all customers feel safe, comfortable and accepted. The Progress Flag will be flying above every IKEA Australia store leading up to IDAHOTB Day and IKEA stores in Australia include room sets that showcase a diverse range of living solutions, including those inspired by same sex couples.

IKEA Australia is also committed to creating a fair and equal workplace for all co-workers and continues to remove barriers to help LGBT+ co-workers’ to feel more at home while at work, and for ally co-workers to show their support. Recent actions include the introduction of gender-neutral uniforms, and pronouns on name badges.

IDAHOTB Day is 17 May 2022. For more information and actions for LGBT+ inclusion from IKEA Australia, go to IKEA.com.au/HomePrideHome
